ABC PICKS UP SECOND SEASON OF "MONK"

Emmy Award-Winning Series to Premiere Saturday, January 17 on ABC



The ABC Television Network has picked up the second season of "Monk," premiering SATURDAY, JANUARY 17, 2004 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET/PT), it was announced today.

The USA Network series -- for which star Tony Shalhoub won both an Emmy Award in 2003 in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series category - had a successful first season run on ABC in the summer and early fall of 2002.

Adrian Monk (Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic (and still unsolved) murder of his wife, the devastated Monk became obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. His condition eventually cost him his job, and continues to pose unique challenges in his daily life. Now working as a private consultant with the help of his nurse/Girl Friday, Sharona, Monk continues to investigate cases in the most unconventional ways.

"Monk" stars Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk, Bitty Schram as Sharona Fleming, Ted Levine as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer and Jason Gray-Stanford as Lieutenant Randall Disher.

The show is executive produced by Andy Breckman, David Hoberman and Tony Shalhoub, and is a production of Mandeville Films, Inc. in association with Touchstone Television.
