Wink Steve Martin Takes On Pink Panther

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Steve Martin has agreed to step into the role of Inspector Jacques Clouseau for MGM's new "Pink Panther" movie.

Chris McGurk, vice-chairman and chief operating officer at MGM, confirmed Martin's decision Thursday night at an open house hosted by the studio.

The original "Pink Panther" starred Peter Sellers as the bumbling French detective on the trail of a slippery jewel thief. Sellers kept the franchise going in four subsequent features, while Roger Moore and Alan Arkin also took turns in Clouseau's trench coat.

Ivan Reitman and his Montecito Picture Co. are producing the remake with Reitman attached to direct. Martin next stars in 20th Century Fox's "Cheaper by the Dozen" in December.

Oh bro-ther. Let's see, they tried having Roberto "Stay the Hell off the Furniture!" Begnini as Clouseau a few years ago; that was a bust. What do ya wanna bet this version goes the same way?

Actually, of all the names mentioned over the years to take over the Inspector Clouseau role, Steve Martin sounds ike the best choice.

Hopefully, they'll get a decent writer and director attached to the project. Who knows, maybe they'll let Martin write this one.

I am a big fan of the origianl films. I think Peter Sellers is wonderful! Steve Martin is probably the only person I can think of that could fill his shoes.

We'll have to wait and see. It will be hard to replace Peter Sellers.

Iiii dunnooo...

I like Steve Martin too, but I'm getting *so* tired of remakes. I don't think I remember hearing about so many in such a short span of time before. Peter Sellers is Clouseau. That'd be like Roberto Begnini doing a remake of 'The Jerk'.
Doing a remake of the P Panther movie is kinda weird because though Sellers was in plenty of other films (rent 'Being There'!), Clouseau is a role he made famous. Martin is gonna have to fill some big shoes.

Guess Hollywood is so strapped for new ideas, in the next 6 months, they'll be doing remakes of 'Crossroads' (Britney), 'Glitter', & "Matrix". Hey- how about remakes of REmakes!

I suppose if they are going to remake Pink Panther- Steve Martin would be the best. But they'll probably have to bastardize it and make it into a Hollywood fluff film that no one will remember in a few years (basically all of Ashton Kutcher's movies and ****ty frat comedies)- much like what Adam Sandler did with Mr Deeds- why does all the comedy have to be made more modern-day Hollywood? Anyway- they'll cast crappy people as the bad guys and all- change the plot a lot- and put Anna Nicole Smith in just for a few giggles.

Sgt Bilko was a crime! Steve Martin should've been made apologise to any remaining relatives of Phil Silvers!
