Angry Now What am I Gonna Listen to?

This sucks. My uncle informed me this morning that my fav radio station has been turned into a talk station. This station was awesome because it played a great mix of 70s-now. Ugh...this stupid town has no stations to start with and the last thing we need is another talk station!!

This ever happen to you?

Oh yeah. It happened twice and on the same station on the dial (Both were 94.9). When I was little, my favorite station that I would listen to was KBest95. They played oldies. I wouldn't listen to anything other than what was played on that station, it always had to be 94.9 when I was in the car. On New Years Day around 2000, the name changed from KBest95 to Oldies94.9. Nothing changed until November that same year when all of a sudden I turned on the radio and instead of hearing oldies I heard a John Cougar Mellencamp song (Jack and Diane). Turns out that the format changed because of years of sagging ratings. It was now an 80s station called B94.9. I was really disappointed but then I started listening to it and after a while, I grew to love it. In a matter of months, 80s was my favorite music of all time (And still is, even though I like oldies, too.) Unfortunately, B94.9 also had sagging ratings despite ousting rival station Mix95.7 (That station is now defuct and is currently KOOL 95.7, which plays oldies.). 94.9 is now an alternative rock station the last time I've heard.

Yeah, this happened several years ago to my favorite radio station WJR Detroit. when someone bought them out and started running all these stupid talk radio syndicated programs like Rush LiMbaugh(need I say more?) and turned a really cool station into a negative piece of trash! I refuse to tune into it anymore. Give me a break!

I've lost a few great NYC radio stations over the years due to format changes.
One of them WNEW FM was one of the pioneers of FM rock radio, but for some reason they went "alternative" then they swithed to all talk, and then they became "Blink 102.7" with hollywood gossip and top 40. That format tanked after a few months, so they went to lite top 40.

Such a shame they did that to a once great station.

There was this smooth jazz station here and i loved it. Then about a year later it was turned into techno/club music crap...

Oh man...that's probably what they did to mine. Yuck.

But our oldies station is playing all Beatles all weekend, so I'm happy. I'll find something else Monday.

That sucks. They do enough talking on the radio as it is, at the beginning of songs, at the end of songs, in between songs. Why the heck do they need to turn the entire station into a talk show? That's one of the reasons I hardly listen to the radio. I'll stick to my CD's. At least then I can hear the music I like whenever I want.

My CD's suite me just fine as well, but I am glad that radio stations don't play one type of music but we have a variety of choices!!

The Spirit of Radio

by Rush
from "Permanent Waves"

Begin the day with a friendly voice,
A companion unobtrusive
Plays the song that's so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood.

Off on your way, hit the open road,
There is magic at your fingers
For the Spirit ever lingers,
Undemanding contact in your happy solitude.

Chorus
Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free

All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted.
Not so coldly charted
It's really just a question of your honesty, yeah,
Your honesty.
One likes to believe in the freedom of music,
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity.

Chorus

For the words of the profits were written on the studio wall,
Concert hall
And echoes with the sounds of salesmen.

Natural Science

by Rush
from "Permanent Waves"

1. Tide Pools

When the ebbing tide retreats
Along the rocky shoreline,
It leaves a trail of tidal pools
In a short-lived galaxy.
Each microcosmic planet
A complete society.

A simple kind mirror
To reflect upon our own.
All the busy little creatures
Chasing out their destinies.
Living in their pools,
They soon forget about the sea...

Wheels within wheels in a spiral array,
A pattern so grand and complex,
Time after time we lose sight of the way,
Our causes can't see their effects.

2. Hyperspace

A quantum leap forward
In time and in space,
The universe learned to expand.

The mess and the magic,
Triumphant and tragic,
A mechanized world out of hand.

Computerized clinic
For superior cynics
Who dance to a synthetic band.

In their own image,
Their world is fashioned.
No wonder they don't understand.

3. Permanent Waves

Science, like nature,
Must also be tamed
With a view towards its preservation.
Given the same
State of integrity,
It will surely serve us well.

Art as expression,
Not as market campaigns
Will still capture our imaginations.
Given the same
State of integrity,
It will surely help us along.

The most endangered species,
The honest man,
Will still survive annihilation.
Forming a world
State of integrity,
Sensitive, open and strong.

Wave after wave will flow with the tide, and bury the world as it does.
Tide after tide will flow and recede, leaving life to go on as it was...
