I personally found the 1977/78 season to be one of the show,s better seasons.Inspite of how it ended[with the Stivics emotional departure to California].A lot happened during that season.Starting with Archie managing to buy Kelsey,s Bar,renaming it Archie,s Place.Kelsey had had a heart attack,and was told he must give up his bar.Thus Archie,s Place was born.Then on October 16 to be excact,Edith experienced a horrifying ordeal with a police detective-turned-gunman rapist,during the evening of her 50th birthday,of all days.At Christmas time,Beverly LaSalle the lovable transvestite made his third appearance in the series.However,it turned out to be his very last appearance,when he and Mike walked together to where Beverly was to put on a show that night,and were brutally attacked by thugs who beat Beverly to death.This being such a tragedy for Edith,because she and Beverly had developed a special friendship with eachother.Her Christmas spirit was ruined that year.Finally,the season ended with the Stivics,emotional farewell departure to California.Personally I wish the Stivics could have remained next door to the Bunkers after the 77/78 season.The series was never the same without the four of them together.Things didn,t even work out in California.By Christmas of the following season,Mike and Gloria were separated,and talking about divorce.Which they eventually did,leading Gloria into her own short lived series.I wonder if they had remained next door to the Bunkers during the 78/79 season,would Mike and Gloria,s marraige have reached the stage it did in California.Who knows?After all,life is full of changes.We live in an ever changing world.
