Post Kim Fields played an older character! READ!

It says on imdb.com that kim was born in 1969. Mrs. Garrett cleary says in episode #13, Overachieving that Tootie is 12 years old. That means that a 10 or early 11 year old Kim Fields, was playing an older person. I never relized that.

Also, so did Mindy Cohn...

Isn't she a month younger than Nancy? Blair and Jo were about two years older than Nat, so Mindy played someone younger, I guess.

Jo: When my dad doesn't like people, Blair, he doesn't show it. Look how he treated you!

actually, Jo was slightly older than Blair, yet Nancy is nearly 3 years younger. (I say this because they explain that Jo is 16 in TEENAGE MARRIAGE, which aired in January 1981, and then there was an episode toward the end of the 85-86 season airing around March or April, that had Blair's 21st bday)

It's not uncommon at all for child actors to play older than their real age. They are cast this way on purpose. As we all know, puberty isn't always kind (if you don't believe me, check out Alice, with Nancy's brother, Phil). By having a younger actor play an older character, the producers of the show can stretch out the "cuteness" of the character.

There is a book called "Former Child Stars" that has a very good explanation on this. Joal Ryan, the author, has a great web site full of info on all our favorites child stars. http://www.formerchildstar.net

Actually, I think that in ep 131 "It's lonely at the top" Blair said she was a few months older than Jo (which is one reason why Blair felt it was her place to run the store)

In 1979, Lisa Whelchel was a sixteen year-old playing a fifteen year-old, Mindy Cohn was a thirteen year-old playing her age, and Kim Fields was a ten year-old playing an eleven year-old. When Nancy McKeon came a year later, she was a fourteen year-old playing a sixteen year-old.
