Default I'm confused about the character Grady Wilson because

when he took over for 9 episodes toward the end of the 73-74 season, the show still did well but when he started his own spinoff in December of 1975, the show failed and was cancelled in March of 1976. But I guess my question is where were all those viewers who still watched Sanford and Son when he was the lead character once his spinoff Grady premeired? Why didn't they support him on his own show? Confusing if u ask me.

I agree the show wasn't any good! It was a bad idea like Sanford and Sanford Arms! You really can't break up a really good cast like that especially when the main show is still on the air.

I actually like Sanford Arms. I received 4 eps in the mail about 3 months ago and wanted to see the others. 8 eps were produced but only 4 were aired in 1977.

I personally believe the fans of Sanford and Son, could not tolerate seeing Grady in his own show; he was kinda of a weak character to begin with and he was only popular when he was interacting with Fred and the other casts member of Sanford and Son..Also his spin-off show was pretty weak when it came to writing and all....

Your right Mrs. R.N. HARRIS, what makes spin off not work, is the fact that the character that is usually the spin off character loses their greatness because they are no longer the straightman or sidekick to the person they were playing off of or interacting with. Grady was only funny when Fred was with him, even when he took over the nine episodes, IMO, I felt Sanford and Son was not funny, Grady and Lamont didn't have the chemistry of Fred and Lamont.

all you anti-grady, anti-sanford arms, and anti-sanford people are using every reason to not like these shows and make excuses why they were not successful.
if you look at your comments, you could have all been describing "the ropers" as well. and it did pretty good the time it was on. it did well, and threes company didn't suffer either.
i can't remember why i didn't see sanford arms. but i did watch grady and it was a decent show. but i have said before, sanford would have made it if it were not up against a ratings hitter like love boat.

It couldn't compete against the incredible hulk either in 1981

There are episodes in which GRADY did well without FRED. Will the real Fred do something, tyrant thy name is grady. Just to name two in which i remember GRADY carried the show. He did well in the episode about the "parsley".

The episodes with Grady on Sanford and Son were not bad but he really didn't have a good reason to insult Aunt Esther like Fred did. But when he did it was still funny!

fred was in St Louis because of contract disputes between Redd Foxx and NBC... some of the episodes were written but adjusted so grady said the punch lines instead of fred. GRADY?????
