Default Sad Songs

Yeah- the ones that make y'wanna cry.
Maybe it's just something in the melody or the voice singing it or an old memory attached to it...

I really like Burt Bachrach's stuff. I feel close to 'The Look of Love'. (slower version) Special memory attached to that one. It's beautiful. But Dionne Warwick doing "Walk On By" almost brings me to tears everytime.

I really like "Wedding Bell Blues" by The 5th Dimension & it has nearly the same effect on me because I think of my mother when she was young during the 60s & I just imagine her thinking the lyrics to my dad.

I love Bobby Darin's "If I Were a Carpenter". It's kinda sad to hear knowing Darin died young & very ill.

Jermaine Jackson's version of Daddy's Home made me cry when I was like, 5 or 6.

Also the Leftbanke's Walk Away Renee. Gorgeous.

Yesterday used to really shake me up because ages ago I could swear I have a oooold childhood memory of seeing a made for tv movie about an alcoholic father who left his family & I remember them using that song as the theme music. Why do I wanna say Dick Van Dyke played the dad??

I'm sure there's more....

The Beatles - "Yesterday" (1965)
Everyone knows this song, but you really need to hear the mono mix to get the full, goosbump-inflicting extent of Paul's voice.

John Lennon - "Mother" (1970)
John knew his mother, but he never had the relationship with her that he needed.

Led Zeppelin - "All My Love" (1979)
Robert Plant wrote this song as a tribute to his five-year-old son who passed away two years earlier.

Paul McCartney - "Here Today" (1982)
Paul's touching tribute to John Lennon.

Queen - "The Show Must Go On" (1991)
Freddie Mercury knew that he was dying, but the public didn't. The final track from Queen's 1991 album, Innuendo, fans found out what the song really meant eight months after the album's release, when Freddie succumbed to AIDS.

R.E.M. - "Everybody Hurts" (1992)
Indeed.

Warren Zevon - "Keep Me In Your Heart" (2003)
Staring death right in the face, the usually whimsical Warren wrote a very serious and touching song addressing friends and family which told them not to forget him (as if they ever could).

Any "song" by Avril Lavigne. They don't make me want to cry, but they do make me want to find a faster way to kill myself.

Adam's Song by Blink-182.... I hate them... but I swear that song makes me cry.

There's also a list of tear-jerkers for me... but I'm weird, some of these aren't even sad songs..

Every Breath You Take- The Police
My Immortal- Evanescence
There You'll Be- Faith Hill
I'll Stand By You- The Pretenders
You'll Be In My Heart- Phiil Collins
The Way You Look Tonight- Elton John
