Default Will anyone surpass Johnny Carson's 30 year late night reign?

Does anyone think if Jay,David or Conan will surpass Johnny Carson of hosting a late night show for more than thirty years? David would seem the closest, since he has hosted since 1982? He would need to host until 2013. Jay would have to host until 2023. Conan would have to host until 2024. What do you think?

Definitely David. But you never know, one of them could retire at any time. But, Conan's still pretty young...He just turned 40 in April...And just had his 10th anniversary...Hm, I think he would be about the same age as Dave is now if he hung in there til 2024.

And you are correct, he did indeed start in 1982.

Someone may well get to the 30 year mark, but it wont mean as much as when Carson did it. Johnny was first and set the bar for those who tried to follow in his footsteps.

As much as I like Conan.... nothing beats the King.
And hopefully no one ever will.

Conan should aim for 30 years.... but the night before he would meet Carson's record.... have his final episode.

Indeed Dave did start hosting LATE NIGHT in 1982, but CARSON holds the record for hosting The TONIGHT Show (thats 1 show) for 30 years. Who will exceed Carson's record in hosting 1 show for more then 30 yrs? Closet to this is Jay Leno, he's hosted The Tonight Show longer then Dave hosted The Late Show and longer then Conan has hosted Late Night. Of course, can't count Craiggers in, he's not even near his 10 yr Late Late Show stint.. Speaking of him.. when he gonna get a set change, or a graphic change, maybe a logo change? He's seen the same set since it's debut in 1999, don't you think it's about time?
