When Jerry was explaining how the millenium started at year 1 to Newman, He said quote: "Making your party one year LATE, thus making it, quite lame!"
I beleive he was supposed to say, one year EARLY? |

Seems like they really did mess that one up, is there some joke I'm not getting.... or did they blow it by a couple of years...
(end of ep) J: By the way Newman, I'm just curious. When you booked the hotel, did you book it for the millennium New Year? NEWMAN: (smug) As a matter of fact, I did. J: Oh, that's interesting, because as everyone knows, since there was no year zero, the millennium doesn't begin until the year two-thousand and one. Which would make your party, one year late, and thus, quite lame. |

I think it makes sense. The fun (non-lame) time to have the party would be Dec 31, 1999 to welcome in the year 2000 and the supposed new millennium. Jerry got Newman to admit that when he booked the party he asked for the millennium New Year which according to proper time keeping would be Dec 31 2000 as the new millennium technically does not begin until 2001. Therefore Newman's party was going to be on Dec 31, 2000 (the actual millennium New Year) rather than Dec 31 1999 (the cool day we all celebrated and accepted as the start of the new millennium) thus Newman's party was going to be 1 year late, and quite lame as the big blowout party should have happened 12/31/99.
So technically Newman and the hotel got the start of the millenium right, but our culture celebrates it a year early, so Newman got the technical date right but it was still going to be lame. My problem with this little ending was that it was unrealistic to think Newman wouldnt have known the actual date the party was going to be on rather than assuming he reserved 12/31/99 and also that the hotel would have understood his request for the millenium new year to be 12/31/00 rather than 12/31/99 because no one thinks that way other than the date-Nazi Jerry. |

I think we need MillenniumMan831 to get to the bottom of this.

Here I am.
If Dick Clark can have a HUMUNGOID bash every year, why not Newman? At least the gang would be out of jail by then. And sisatrastar explained the dilemma beautifully. |
