Default "Trading Places" or "Coming to America"

Since "Coming to America" is a semi sequal to "Trading Places". Let's compare them, first of all they are two of the funniest movies ever, both better than that Eddie Murphy haunted house movie that is coming out soon.

Most Eddie Murphy fans would say "Coming to America" because it features more of Eddie Murphy. Though if you a fan of Eddie Murphy's early stand up act, "Trading Places" represents more of that. In the beginning of that movie when he is pretending to be a blind no legged man, and when he is talking BS in the prison, that is more of his standup act than anything that happened in any of those two movies.

I loved both movies, but since part of "Coming to America" takes place in Africa, it would have been hilarous if we found out that Clarence Becks (more unlikeable than the Duke brothers) was still stuck in that Gorilla costom. (in real life because the duck tape blocking his mouth he would have died. But this is the movies, they ignore such details)

They're both very funny movies.

Mmm, I'm going with Trading Places though.

'Coming to America', hands down. So many classic scenes & one-liners! ("SEXUAL CHOCOLATE!!")

Speaking of his stand-up, I think he oughta do a comeback tour of some sort. I think he's been kinda striking out in movies recently. His last really funny movie to me was 'The Distinguished Gentleman". He's still really funny, but these bad scripts recently...geez, what was that *really* bad space one he did a year or 2 ago? No one even saw that. That & 'Holy Man."

Is that haunted house one w/ him out yet?

Hard decision, I love both movies, but have to go with Trading Places. "It was the Dukes, it was the Dukes!"

Also love the part when the Dukes give the 'servant' $5 for his Christmas bonus and he says "$5, maybe I'll go to the movies. By myself."

Here are some thoughts on both movies. In "Coming to America", when Akeem gives the Duke brothers a lot of money or pocket change, why didn't the Dukes notice the resembolence between Akeem and Billy Ray Valentine? And it is ironic that a black man got this two biggids out of the gutter.

Also "Trading Places" takes place in Philadelphia, how the hell the Dukes end up in Queens? The last sence involving the Dukes in "Trading Places" does take place on Wall Street which is located in Manhatton, then how they get from Manhatton to Queens?

One line from "Trading Places" that is one of my favorites is when the Duke brother played by Don Ameche (I forget which one is Randolph and which one is Mortimor) is yelling "Put those machines back on! Put those machines back on!" That is classic.

Ralph played Randolph and Don played Mortimer. When they bail Billy Ray out of jail and they're sitting in the car, Billy Ray calls them Mortay and Randy(Randy, like Randy Jackson of the Jackson 5). That's how I was able to remember which one was which when I first started watching the movie, that whole Randy Jackson comparison.

Also, the whole Manhattan/Queens thing. They're next to each other so I guess it wouldn't have taken much for the Dukes to get over there from Manhattan to Queens. But you do bring up a good point.

I do think that was genius to have that small bit in Coming to America with the Dukes. Of course, you had to see Trading Places first, to understand it.
