Default Cate's Parent's

I've never seen the episode but I read in one episode from last season that Cate and Paul visit Cate's parent's. Were her parent's in this episode played by different actors?

Where were Paul's parents? Did they ever say in an earlier episode that his parents had passed away? I would assume that the parents would want to be there with there daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

What happened to Pauls parents?

My guess, assuming that his parents are suppose to be alive, is that they probably just wanted to grieve privately for awhile. If I were a parent, and had a child die, I think I would just want to be with my wife for a few weeks to grieve alone. Also, I think the writers probably wanted the focus of the episode to be squarely on the immediate cast. I can imagine it would be pretty difficult to write a one hour episode that dealt with both the immediate casts grief, as well as Paul's parents grief.

What I found odd was the fact that Kate's sister wasn't there. I know they explained her absence by saying she was vacationing in Tahiti or something, but I thought Cybill Shepard was great as her sister last year, and it would have been nice to see her in the episode. I wonder why she didn't appear?

Thanks I see your point of wanting to grieve alone, just found it odd that no reference was made evenmentioning them at all, or at least Cate could have mentioned them in a reference, but I understand how hard it would be to write, good point mdntrider7.

I sort of wished Cybill Shepard was on too. I noticed when James Garner was talking to Cate he just mentioned having 2 daughters. I wonder if this ends the rumor that Ed O'neill is going to play Cate's brother.
