I was wondering if anyone else noticed how the main characters of these three NBC comedies of the early 80's all had main characters who were filthy rich. The Drummonds, Rick from SS, and Blair Warner were all rich kids. I was thinking maybe it was a sign of the times with Reagan taking office in 1980. The 80's can definitely be described as the me generation.
However later in the decade, shows like 'Family Ties' and 'Cosby' focused on the more middle class Huxtables and Keatons. This is just something I noticed. ------------------ Tootie: Muffy? Her name is Muffy? What kind of person is named Muffy? Jo: Beats me, Tootie. [This message has been edited by Michele35 (edited 04-02-2001).] |

The Huxtables were not middle class. Cliff was an obstetrician, Clair a legal aid attorney.. they were definitely upper middle class - how could they were those fancy new sweaters every week? I would argue even the Keatons were above middle class, Steven Keaton a manager at a public TV station and Elyse an architect - although they were from middle America.

I would argue that Alex Keaton was trying to do everything in his power not to be middle class.
Yuppie greed. God, I would give anything to live in the 80's all over again. |

Have you all noticed that between DS SS and FOL everybody knew each other? Well I mean the connection. The Drummonds knew the girls at Eastland and Arnold and Ricky were friends and they both knew Mr. T.

FOL, DS, and SS were also produced by the same production company as well.
