Cool The 80's are cool!!

Any notice now a days the 80's fashion is coming back. Like those old school nike shoes Arnold, Willis, and Kimberly wear. They're cool. My sister even likes the clothes Kimberly wears. But I'm talking about 78-81 era. The late eighties were nasty though. But I'm even starting to wear some of my 80's retro clothes. It seems like I don't really like stuff today. Like the tv shows and music. It was cool back then. Anyone feel the same?

Absolutely. I can't stand most of today's sitcoms and music. 80's fashion seems to be coming back, but slowly. We might be bringing back some of those neon colors, and our pants are not as baggy as they were in the 90's.

On the other hand, I live in California, and all I see is ppl wearing tank tops and sandals- with pants as well as with shorts.

But in my opinion, although the 80's did have its highlights, it had its downfalls too. Some of the styles of the late 80's were pretty tacky, as you said. And don't you think it's kind of expensive to have to keep up with brand names and logo all the time? Lately, I've been able to get my clothes at a pretty inexpensive price. Tank tops for $5 and under; flip flops for $2 at Walmart...etc.

Yup, I agree with you there. I also like to get some shirts at thrift shops. Also have you notice that lots of people especially teens, are wearing tight ringer shirts and also shirts with numbers on them just like back in the day. Except it was cooler then!

Yea, tight shirts are definitely in, unlike the 80's when loose tops were in. That doesn't bother me a whole lot...but if tight pants come back in style like they were in the 80's- all I can say is eek! For me, it's pretty hard to fit into those, and I don't care for them much either.

It definitely seems 80's fashions are on the slow come back. I am starting to see dolphin shorts come back and track shorts as well with the triple strips on the side. Those were cool shorts. Back in the 1980's, people wore real shorts. Nowadays, shorts are so long, that it just seems plain silly to wear them. Also, tighter shirts are back and in some cases with numbers on them. I just hope tight jeans don't come back. I like to be comfortable!

Well, I guess you can say that in the earlier part of the 80's, tighter shirts were in style. In the late 80's, however, ppl were wearing bigger tops, especially with collars and shoulder pads.

dbk, which region of the U.S. do you live in (e.g., the east, the south, the mid-west, etc..)? You might be seeing slightly different styles where you live!

I agree with you guys about the shorts. I think short shorts are better just as long as it's not too short. Like when I watch basketball now, some of their shorts are way too big. Somebody should start a fashion trend and wear regular size shorts like John Stockton. Also have you guys notice more and more guys are growing their hair long and over their ears then 2 or 3 yrs ago. I think I'm going to start growing my hair over my ears. I think it looks cool.

I am from Texas where the weather gets pretty hot. What is interesting so far this summer, I have noticed seeing females wearing dolphin shorts and the males wearing the double and some cases triple striped track sports shorts which are shorter than average 1990's shorts for males but not as short as the early 1980's fashion which is fine. Not too long, not too short. As for the girls, when I say dolphin shorts, I mean the ones like for example what Willis was wearing when he was in the gym during the episode Father/Son Contest when Willis hurt his dad's feelings by asking someone else to be his dad in the contest. This next fashion will probley won't come back, but I remember and also seeing it today on Diff'rent Strokes, people wearing polo shirts that had a little lion symbol on the upper left corner of the shirt. That was fashionable then too. Also, as for men's hair, it varies. I have seen men with short hair and long hair equally. Wouldn't it be nice to see spike hair fashions return!?

It would be interesting, but then again it would be no big deal because here in California, particularly in those liberal areas, LOTS and LOTS of people wear pink, green, or purple hair (etc.....).

LOL! I didn't think about it till now that I've basically been focusing on fashion for females, and most of you have been focusing on fashion for men. Or am I wrong?

Whoa- gotta go...Diff'rent Strokes is actually on in my time zone as I am writing this....

I am so glad that I'm not the only person who feels that way about the sitcoms of today and the stupid music of today. Well most of it.

Whoa! Nice to see a lot of you guys responding. I was afraid I was the only person who feels this way. About the hair, yes it was frightening. I was watching FOL last night and their hair cuts scares me!! But I like the style of the early eighties. Like the hair over the ears. Kind of like a Beatles cut. I see a lot of rock bands with that hair do.
