Yep, I was officially a "Nielsen" household this past week for the TV ratings survey. They paid me a whopping $5 to fill out my little daily TV diary.....boy that was fun!!! Actually, it's not as easy as you think if you're a channel-surfer like me.....I was writing stuff in that silly book every 15 minutes on a lot of occassions.
Then a girlfriend would come over & lock me into some show like "Joe Millionaire" or "Real World" and I start debating if I want to write this down in the diary. I'm thinking they'll see, "Visitor, AGE: 24, SEX: Female"......male viewer goes from watching ESPN & the History channel to this fluff......Conclusion: will watch anything to get some! Design market strategy around shows whipped boyfriends will be coerced into watching.....send results to beer companies to run commercials of scantily-clad females frolicking to ridiculous rock jingles during these programs. But fear not, fellow WINGS-watchers!!!! Everyday in my little diary is my morning viewing of WINGS at 5:30 (cst) where I can catch it on Nick's west coast channel on my satellite. And here's the cool part........at the back of the diary, it asks for comments about TV programming, etc. I gave my 2 cents about Nick's erratic programming habits, specifically what they did with WINGS and how it has made it difficult to keep watching the show. Probably won't help, but it was good to get it off my chest to someone in the TV industry. Perhaps if us viewers can't sway Nick's programming execs, advertisers will if they think Nick's too capricious!!!!!!!!! |

That's great....I did a similar thing regarding "Wings" being released on DVD....
I'm a former subscriber to video series of old TV shows from Columbia House ("I Love Lucy", "Sgt. Bilko", etc.), so I'm on their mailing list. Every so often I receive a mailing from them trying to get me to subscribe to more series. They'll send me a brochure of available series on VHS and/or DVD that I can choose from, and they'll offer special "Introductory Volume" price specials. When I received my last mailing, and saw everything from "Law and Order" to "Cheers" to "The Jeffersons" available, I mailed the order form back to Columbia House.....NOT with a placed order, but with a message written across the order form: "Offer WINGS on DVD and we'll do some business!" It may have been kind of smart-assed, but it got my point across! |

If I had one of those boxes/diaries, I would watch nothing but Thomas Haden Church and episodes of "Frasier".
I'll show 'em who's boss... |
