I just stumbled across these SeinConnections and a probable origin for the H.E. Pennypacker handle and references.
There is a 1959 film (after the play) "The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker" ( http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0053214/ ). After doing a quick read, it appears evident that Kramer's alto ego does reference this Pennypacker. Also, in the film I see there is a "Horace", a "Henry," so an "H.E." is likely, probably "Papa Pennypacker." Even more... It appears that actor Bill Erwin, who played Sid Fields in 58 The Old Man, played H.E. Pennypacker in the play-look at caption under last photo: http://bochynski.com/billerwin/youngbe.htm#top and.. as we know... Jer liked/referenced Bud & Lou... the real Sid Fields was an actor/writer who appeared/wrote on a few Abbott And Costello projects (TV & film) http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0044229/ http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0276352/ In similar fashion, real actor Sid Fields frequently played himself, or character "Sidney Fields." I found it all pretty sein-reference laden and pretty thick. ![]() & just fer kicks: SID: "Oh *her*. She *steals* from me. Steals my money. She says she doesn't speak English. My *ass* she doesn't speak English. Plays that freakin' "voo-doo" music, tries to hypnotize me. She thinks she's gonna turn me into a zombie and then rob me blind. Well, I wasn't born yesterday. I may drop dead today, but I sure as Hell wasn't born yesterday. Now get the Hell out of my house..." |

Re Fields:
I thought the "old man" was great in that episode, and apparently so did the Hollywood establishment: |

no prob. he really did a good acting job cause I thought he was really a cantankarous old fart, but after seeing all the pics he looks like a nice enough guy. Hearing the term pennypacker is enuff to blow away any Seinfreak
maestro archives was my term, I'm picturing you and Peterman searching thru a bunch of cardboard boxes looking for a Ziggy cartoon. "Quick Elaine, to my archives!" |
