Talking I sorta pulled an Antonio on a customer!

I was working at the store the other night when this really snooty middle-aged couple walks up to my register with about two dozen cans of cat food. They said they were cat breeders. After I rang up their order, the man gives me a whole bunch of coupons for cat food, enough to get his food for free and then some. I politely told them that the store has a policy on doubling up (or in their case, tripling up) on coupons. Guy calls me a dumb bitch and demands to speak to the store manager. I call the manager over and the guy tells him that they are cat breeders and always use enough coupons to get their cat food for free. The manager repeats what I had told them a few minutes ago: it is against store policy for them to use that many coupons at once. The guy is like, "FINE! I'm not buying my food here unless I can get it for free! You just lost a potential regular customer." I got back at them by telling them that I was going to ask them for their business card after they had said they were cat breeders because I was looking for a new kitten, but the rude and unreasonable way they acted towards me and my manager in front of our customers made me reconsider. The man looked shocked and asked me if that was true. I said yes, they had in fact, lost a potential buyer and possibly others. They just walked out.

It felt so great putting that arrogant jerk in his place I'm sure Antonio would have been proud. I really hate it when people act like they are above everyone else.

How often does things like this happen at your job? I've been to grocery stores for as long as I can remember and I have never seen a customer act like the ones that you talk about.

Good job handling that customer.

Actually, a lot of my regular customers are nice, decent human beings. I think you're more likely to notice the jerks when you're working instead of just shopping because naturally, the employee is the focus of their attention. Also, we employees usually spend a lot more time at the store than you customers do. Most of the time, the things that customers at my store seem to be rude about are registers closing down (Some people seem to think we shouldn't be allowed to pee! ), pricing (They see one item on sale and think everything in that aisle is that price.), people ahead of them being too slow, having to wait a minute, and cash available in my drawer (They give me a huge bill for a small purchase and grumble when I have to give them a bunch of smaller bills or get change.) Once in a while though, I'll get a customer who is just downright rude, nasty, or unreasonable, like that cat guy and the woman who made fun of my physical disabilities.

I'm also doing an internship in a special education classroom. I really enjoy it. I hope I get a new job soon. I've been a cashier far too long.

I'm a residential real estate appraiser, and I LOVE how homeowners will try to find out if I'm qualified to appraise their house or not (so they'll get the highest value possible from an experienced appraiser who knows what he's doing)....

I'll be walking through the house taking notes, and the homeowner will say something like, "So how long have you been doing this?". They ask the question like they're making cozy, friendly small talk, but they're really trying to find out if I'm an inexperienced rookie or not.

Just ONCE I'd like to answer, "Oh, THIS is my first appraisal assignment!"....and then I'd go through the rest of the house like a super-stupid version of Lowell Mather:

ME: "Is this the kitchen?"

HOMEOWNER: "No, that's a bathroom!"

ME: "DAMN, I was so CLOSE!"

Can you just IMAGINE the look on that homeowner's face after THAT?

I work as a bagger at a grocery store. I get a lot of friendly, recurring customers who like me. But, I also get the mean ones who make me feel like I'm stupid and pathetic. Whenever I do a price check, they never believe me. I guess because I'm a 21 year old bagger I have to be a moron who can't read a sign.

I always love it when Al Bundy (Married...with Children) goes off on a customer at the shoe store. He always says what I can't say.

I also work in customer service. Being in constant contact with the public like that all the time is going to expose you to everybody out there. I had a particular nightmare at work today. We have a new computer system, and somebody at the corporate level made a dumba$$ error, and everything had to be done manually, had to call over the phone for every single credit card transaction, and no checks accepted, LOL. What a day. Stoopid people at the corporate level, and they make more money than us!
I also get many regular, friendly customers, but the mean and rude ones get exactly what they're asking for with their karma. That's the way I look at it.
