Default Who wants to help me carpet Florida?!

Then we can vacuum it and see how long it takes!

LOL
The "Say, Uncle Calton" episode was on last night. I think that's the best Carlton episode. I was laughing so hard. Carlton's question about carpeting Florida was sooo funny. "If you were to carpet Florida, how long do you suppose it would take to vacuum it?"
And Gilbert Gottfried was hilarious as Lewis. haha The way he talks is so obnoxious, he just cracks me up ALL the time. I liked when Alex says to him, "I went to bootcamp. I can hurt you." and Lewis says, "I'm a salesman. No you can't." haha.

OH! and Lowell with his blue bicycling suit. hahahaha.

what else.. i don't remember... But I know I laughed out loud a lot during this episode.

Gilbert Gottfried's "Lewis" was a great character....He had the annoying voice and traits of Carlton, plus he could hit on the younger "Wings" ladies in a sleazy "lounge lizard" manner.

I find this particular "Carlton" episode a little disturbing because of the rather frail appearance of William Hickey. It's obvious that the man was physically going downhill fast....he just appears more sickly than in his earlier appearances. In fact, in a couple of places, it looks like he's going into an unplanned coughing fit while he's talking, and they had to stop the camera and resume filming when he got over it.

Because of Mr. Hickey's frailness, some of the scenes in this episode just don't play as well as they would have in earlier appearances....While it's great to see the "Wings" gang finally get even with Carlton (in the last scene when they're describing the film "Casablanca", but refusing to acknowledge that as the correct title), the scene has a certain "cruel" look to it. It just ends up looking like a bunch of younger people ganging up on a sick and frail old man....and the scene WOULDN'T have looked like that in earlier episodes with a stronger-looking and sounding Carlton.

Yes, it IS a funny episode....but I do feel a certain sadness watching it that I DON'T feel with the earlier "Carlton" appearances.

It seems odd to me that William Hickey aged so prematurely, and seemingly died of old age as well. Strange, and sad.

And as for Gilbert Gottfried....he does a great job acting super annoying, such a great job he really makes me cringe. I would never, ever want to meet him, or anyone like him. I sure hope I never run into somebody like him in real life, I will be departing the area immediately! I know the characters in the show have to hang around for the drama in the scenes, but seriously if he entered a room, I would be exiting, no hesitation whatsoever.

He died at 69 due to emphysema, complicated by bronchitis.

I've known people who have suffered from emphysema, and it can really take a lot out of you physically.

In just about every biography you ever read about William Hickey, it mentions how he always looked older than he really was, which allowed him to easily portray older characters.

Somebody once told me that Lowell wore a tight blue leather biker (as in motorcycle) jumpsuit in that episode .
I still want to see Thomas Haden Church in a tight leather biker jumpsuit.

Oh wow, he was only 69? He really did look a lot older than that. It is sad.

yeah I thought the same thing to krista, after watching the featured commentary on the National Lampoons Christmas Vacation dvd last night it was brought up by either the director or the producer that he was only 53 (or around there) when he had the role in the movie ... I was surprised to hear that

I've seen William Hickey in films and TV shows from the 1950's, and he looked older than his actual years THEN!
His hair was either dark brown or black, and he had to be either in his late 20's or early 30's....but he looked like a guy in his 40's!
(He was always pencil-thin too, just like when he played Carlton).

A GREAT William Hickey appearance from the late-1950's is an episode of Phil Silvers' "Sgt. Bilko" sitcom called "F.O.B. Detroit".

In this show, William plays the SUPER-spoiled "rich kid" son of a wealthy tycoon...and he has that "Carlton" whine when he asks "Daddy" for something, as well as this REALLY annoying laugh! Hickey's character really gets on Bilko's nerves too....a very funny appearance!

A couple of the students in the special ed class where I'm doing my internship remind me a little of Carlton because they will often ask a weird-sounding or inappropriate question. I know they don't do it to be annoying though. They can't help themselves.

I've always wondered of Carlton knew how annoying he was.

I love when people ask weird random questions. I don't think it's annoying at all. It's so cool. A lot of little kids ask weird random questions. hehehe.
Actually, I've been told that I have the tendency to ask weird, random questions sometimes. hehehe
