Post 1st Season Nancy Accent

did anyone else notice in the episode "I.Q" that Nancy speaks with a New York-like accent when she's yelling at SueAnn to "just get off (pronounced "aaauuufff") my back" when they are on the couch anticipating their mid term grades??

Yea I noticed, she does have the accent throughout the run of the show, but mostly in the first season. Even today if you listen REALLY close you can hear it!

Because Nancy O. (Felice) was born in NY. Though she never had as thick of a NY accent as Nancy M. did.

If you'll notice, Nancy (the character) pronounces Mrs. Garrett's name different than all the other girls. She says the "a" in "Garrett" more like the "a" in "have", whereas most girls say the "a" like the "a" in "care".

"I do know how to open an umbrella, Mrs. GArrett!"

HA - good catch! This was also an issue on “Knots Landing”. Almost all of the characters pronounced Gary with a long A. But Mack, originally from New York, pronounced it with a short A. I pronounce Garrett the way that Nancy does.

Since Blair and the Drummonds are from NY, does this mean they’re pronouncing it wrong? I’ll have to listen the next time I watch.

You guys are cracking me up, here!

I love Felice. I love her saltiness at the producers' lame excuses. And I LOVE your responses to that saltiness.

I love it too!!!

What's funny is I didn't find it "funny" when I saw it in the documentary. I was just so intensely watching, that when she did, I knew she was going to do it when she was looking for the words and bringing her hands up, but I didn't laugh at it---I was more like "OOOooooo" at the bitter open delivery of it.

It wasn't until I said "40-year-old bitter Felice air quotes" in that thread, and you laughed at that, that I realized the real humor in it.

And now it's my favorite new thing!!
