Smile "CBS at 75"

Hey just wondering...how many of you watched CBS's 75th Anniversery special? I thought it was really good and they mentioned Lucy alot! I also saw Lucie and Desi Jr. in the audience. I knew that they would end with a Lucy clip and they did! The clip from "Lucy Is Enciente" made my heart drop especially with the background music...I wanted to cry

I'm pretty mad though because I began recording it and every commercial break I would check the tape to see if there is enough room and I guess one time I forgot to press record afterward and I missed the whole part where they talked about the comedy legends and showed clips of I Love Lucy...do any of you know if they will air it again or was this just one of those one time specials...I hope not

I watched it too. I thought it was okay, but they could've done a little more justice to some of the older shows, IMO. I went to bed at 10:30 though, so I could've missed something.

I thought it was okay, but they didn't even mention The Lucy Show or Here's Lucy, and they were in the Top 10 for twelve years! They're both excellent shows and don't deserve to be lost in the shadow of I Love Lucy, but I suppose they always will be. They showed a couple ILL clips, plus "Stone Pillow" for a second. I also spotted Lucy in "Gene Kelly, and American in Pasadena" and the "CBS 50th Anniversary Special," which was cool because I've never seen either of those. All in all it was pretty good, but many great shows were left out.

Yes, it was very good, but could have been so much better. My favorite part was that they fly all these famous stars to New York from Los Angeles and then at the end, they brought them all up on stage and then showed a group shot and no close ups so we could actually see who was there! Genius at work!

Yeah, that wasn't right. There's more to Lucy than just I Love Lucy. How rude. I thought the whole show was kind of disorganized. At least the 10 minutes I saw. Just kidding. I think I missed the end though because I don't remember seeing them all come up on stage.

They did, but who cares, all we got was a group of people together, who knows who they were? Yes, totally disgusting about The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy not even being mentionned, after all what's twelve years at the top of the ratings? And Lucie, star of Here's Lucy right there too!

I always look forward to these types of shows so even though I was camping on Sunday night I had my satellite dish and TV handy and settled in at 8:00. In my opinion it was a vehicle to primarily promo their current array of garbage in the guise of presenting some of their history. But when they proclaimed that they pioneered color programming I had had enough!! Anyone who was around in the 50s and 60s can recall that NBC started regular programming in color primarily to sell RCA TVs. While it is true that CBS was first to try color technology their system was incompatible with B/W TVs at the time. You couldn't see it. The FCC shot it down and CBS refused to purchase any compatible color equipment from RCA and stayed B/W until Sept. 1965

Oh yeah, I forgot about that while watching the special. The Lucy Show was filmed in color starting in 1963, but didn't air in color till 1965 (the fourth season).

Did it irritate you more than Angela Lansbury trying to get that standing ovation and the 60 Minutes thing? Bet you still watched the whole thing though, didn't you? I bet ya got it on tape too.

Of course i do, anything with Lucy i keep forever, especially NOW that i have fellow fans to send copies to! I swear the Landsbury thing is not that big a deal, i'm just joking, she lost her husband recently and i think she was great on Broadway and in some movies, it's just the Mame thing and she is after all in Lucy's territory here, i mean Lucy won four Emmy awards and got their Governor's award, poor Angie was nominated nine times and NEVER WON, poor thing. I just feel it's payback for saying Lucy ruined the movie or couldn't sing, the movie would have bombed worse with a non star in it like Angie was at the time, Lucy put the film in the black, contrary to those constant reports of the movie losing a bundle, and Lucy put some of her own money in the film and it's that lousy director who diminished the film but was kept on because he was married to Bea Arthur. Oh and where was Bea at this 75th anniversary show? Jean Stapleton seing as everybody always fawns over All in the family? Even Sally Struthers didn't bother going!

I watched the show when it was on back then, but i have never ever watched a rerun of it, it looks dated and it wasn't all that funny either. However, i have to admit the four actors were excellent and when they show retrospectives, they show the funniest clips, but making fun of people and Archie's whole point of view on life never seemed funny to me. When TV Guide placed him ahead of Lucy in the best TV characters of all time, i just about threw up! Carol was great, but his character not so much, to me anyway!
