Wouldn't it have been cool if there would have been spinoff of Gilligan's Island? For instance of what their lives were like back in civilization? Or there could have been one about Maryann! (Like the Joey spinoff of friends.) Or it would have been cool to have a spinoff about their kids 20 years later in 1984! What do you guys think?

Rory Michelle, I once had a dream - I am not making this up - that I was watching TV and Bob Denver was starring in a spinoff of "Gilligan's Island," in which Gilligan had quit the maritime tourism business after getting rescued from the island and was now operating an ice cream parlor in a small town in South Dakota!
Honest to God! And when I woke up, I started to think about such a show and who the other characters could be - Gilligan's landlord, Gilligan's girlfriend, a couple of kids from the local high school, an accountant. . . . And it made sense that this spinoff I had literally dreamed up should be set in South Dakota. Hey, look, you're rescued from a desert island, you go back to civilization, so what would you do? Of course - you'd move as far away from the ocean as possible without leaving the United States to avoid being shipwrecked again! Here's some sample dialogue from the proposed pilot episode I came up with: WOMAN: You're Willie Gilligan, aren't you? GILLIGAN: Yes, I am. WOMAN: Yeah, you're the guy who was shipwrecked on that island, then they did the sitcom about it! GILLIGAN: Yeah, but that show didn't depict what really happened. . . I mean, really, you think the Howells would have packed that many clothes for a three-hour cruise? I didn't like the way John Denver played me either! WOMAN: Bob. Bob Denver played you. GILLIGAN: Yeah, he played me as an idiot. I didn't like that. So who's John Denver?WOMAN: He's the country-folk singer who sang "Take Me Home, Country Roads." GILLIGAN: Oh yeah, I love that song! Cool, huh?

Thanks, Gilligan Jillian. You know, it makes sense that I could come up with an idea this good in my sleep. A lot of people can come up with better sitcom ideas in their sleep than most Hollywood producers can come up with when they're awake!
There were two parts of my long-ago dream I wasn't so sure would fly in a real Gilligan spinoff. In my dream, the show was called "My Friend Gilligan" - anyone can come up with a better title than that! Also, in my dream, the late Martin Balsam made an appearance in it. Don't ask me how that happened. . . .

Lovey: Oh, don't you dare get angry with me! Tibby |
