I caught part of it by accident today. I didn't watch the whole thing, but I did catch the part where they talked about the speed Trap episode. They kind of made fun of the episode on the fact that Alex became addicted to diet pills as opposed to real speed. It was a pretty typical VHI show, they get a bunch of semi famous comedians together to make fun of everything on the planet. It was pretty much I Love the 80's with a sitcom spin. The family ties stuff was pretty good, but I got bored after that, and changed the channel. If you're a hardcore FT fan though, I guess it's worth a look..

As I said in another thread, I didn't really like how they made fun of this episode. It would have been stupid to have Alex really addicted to drugs. I thought that episode was very good.

Anyway, good point about the VH1 people. Who do these semi-important comedians think they are making fun of widely popular tv shows and their very talented actors and actresses.

That's very true. As I watch these guys constantely bash everything whether it's good or not, I always think of them 20 years from now when VHI does the I love the new Millenium series. These "comedians" who put everything, and everyone down will probably be the ones being made fun of by another lame panel of "comedians". LOL! These guys making fun of family ties, is like the cast from the movie Gigli making fun of the cast of the Godfather, it just doesn't make sense. Bad analogy, I know, but it was the best I could come up with.

Yeah. And Brian Bonsal is a good actor - if he wasnt he wouldn't have won so many emmys.

I agree. I am almost always against adding child actors to a show. However, Andy was the best child actor I have saw on television! He and Alex could be really funny together.

However, I think FT added him a little too soon in the show's life cycle. I don't think any of the other characters were even close to running their course when they added him. I especially didn't like it because Elyse had to miss so much show time.

My posting mistake... I took that first sentence from my last post from Alex the Great. I meant to have it quoted from that post but didn't do it right.

Yes, but it's not like they had a choice. Meredith Baxter was pregnant. If they had decided that they absolutely did not want another kid, they could have put the show on hold or kept her out of an entire season. I think that going with the fourth child was a good idea.

Good point. I hadn't thought that Elyse was really pregnant. That explains why they decided to add a child that early in the series. I don't think they would have added Andy so soon if she hadn't really been pregnant, however. That was better than haulting production or taking Elyse off totally!

Well that's kind of true, although they could have done what so many shows with pregnant actresses do, and only shown her from the chest up or something. Some of the most notable shows to do this was: The Cosby Show with Phylicia Rashaad, and Sex and the City with Sarah Jessica Parker. But since I was an Andy fan, I too was glad they kept the pregnancy as a part of the show.

As far as the Brian Bonsall oscar thing goes, I realize you were just making a joke, but surprisingly aside from MJF, Brian had the most initial success after FT ended. While most of the cast seemed to drop off the face of the Earth, Brian appeared in the movie blank check, which was real popular with the kiddies at the time. He also had a recurring role on Star Trek The Next Generation. I believe he was in a couple other pretty popular movies as well. For awhile there he looked like he was going to be the shows second big breakout star, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

LOL - not Oscars, Emmies, and I wan't making a joke. I believe that Brian won every single time he was nominated. He may have won just as many Emmies if not more awards than MJF during the show. I'm not sure though. The award he was up for was best child actor or actress under ten years of age in a comedy series. I'll check up on that!

Yeah, I was surprised myself. I found that information out on The Michael J. Fox Database. That website, www.mjfdb.com, is down this week but should be up by Sunday I think, so check it out when you get a chance! It's under the "Awards" section on the Family Ties page.

You can also get all the awards that Family Ties and its cast won at the following link:

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0083413/awards

This site includes every award, not just Emmies or Golden Globes.

Andy won three awards for his performence on Family Ties. You can see them at this site in the 1988, 1989, and 1990 sections. (The 1989 and 90 awards were repeats)

Interestingly, Jennifer was the first person to be nominated for an award for Family Ties in 1983.

I was shocked to see all the awards FT and its cast won and was nominated for, including MJF's three in a row Most Outstanding Actor Emmies. I knew he had won a lot, but I didn't know he was so dominating. It is REALLY hard to win three emmies in a row! I don't see how N@N can overlook the quality of this show. I know it is a ratings game, but doesn't quality count for anything anymore?
