Red face Has Britney Gone Too Far?

Has Britney Gone Too Far?

Madonna has teamed up with Britney Spears for the sexy duet, "Me Against the Music." However, many are wondering if it's Britney against the music, as the pop star continues to bare more than her soul. Has Britney gone too far with her new sexy image?

"There's quite a few people who think what Britney's doing is OK. I think it's OK," Nelly told Access.

"I don't think there's any right or wrong of it. It's just what people are, what their talent is and what people want to buy," said Jewel.

At 21 years old, Britney has sold more than 52 million CDs. That's more than Janet, Beyonce and Faith Hill. But, is it her sex appeal or musical talent that's selling albums?

"Sex over substance, yeah," said Carson Daly. "She's always been a performer and just like Madonna, not known for her impeccable five-octave range. So I think as she transitions into a young woman, which she already is, she's going to go through these stages of re-inventing."

When Britney was 18, in an interview with Access Hollywood's Nancy O'Dell, she talked about her idol Madonna and about stripping down for the camera.

"Is Madonna your idol?" asked Nancy.

"Yes, she is my idol. I love her," said Britney.

"You're not going to pop up posing nude anywhere?" asked Nancy.

"No, no," said Britney.

Times have certainly changed for Britney since three years ago. Britney leaves little to the imagination on the latest covers of Esquire and Rolling Stone magazines and a backlash is already underway. The wife of Maryland Governor Kendel Ehrlich made a shocking comment about the superstar.

"If I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would," said Ehrlich in reference to the sexier image Britney is portraying.

Ehrlich later publicly apologized. "I really regret making the statement. It was off-handed, it was in jest," said Ehrlich.

With her new CD "In the Zone" out Nov. 18, the question is: Can Britney still sell? Newsweek music critic Lorraine Ali spent the day with Britney for the magazine and was one of the first to hear her new CD.

"The album is really surprisingly good," said Ali. "[On] this album she's got some great people she's working with. She worked with Moby, she worked with R. Kelly. It's a great club album and her voice is just kind of a nice decoration on the top of it, basically."

I disagree. Singing and selling music shouldn't be about someone's image. It should be about weather they really are worthy enough of selling albums. The sad thing about society today is that some people don't care weather an artist is good or not- if their sex appeal is high, then what they hell, they go out and buy the album.

i dont think someones gonna go buy an album just for a look. going to one of her concerts, or buying her posters ect would be buying the sex appeal. I know, its hard to believe people actually like her music.

on the topic of britney, my sister has been playing one of her new songs nonstop all day. It goes "ohh this is way beyond physical." and "dont stop baby im almost there!" and then theres like orgasim sounds I was like wtf are u listening to child?

Miss Spears emulates her idol Madonna in one of the most important aspects in showbiz: getting attention.

Britney recently posed nearly naked for Rolling Stone and now Esquire. Why? Artistic expression? Changing her image?

No. She has a new album coming out.

Whether or not she has "gone too far," is not the point. The bottom line she has people talking, writers writing articles about her, Entertainment Tonight doing stories about her "new image," all of which draws more attention to her new album, coming out November 18.

I'm not totally cold hearted when it somes to Miss Spears. I think the Esquire cover she did is awsome.

I agree. And I agree with what Tim said.. people arent just going to buy a CD for looks. I think Joel from GC is hot, but I have no desire to buy his album because I dont like that type of music. Same goes for other artists. Thats just me, but it wouldnt make any sense to waste $15 on an artist you only find hot. Itd make more sense to buy their posters and DL their fake porno online.

If looks and image were all that were important, then Insane Clown Posse should be riding high on the charts.

I think Britney's hot. Her music is not. If she had a little more musical substance like Madonna and stop playing the same damn song all the time, she wouldn't be seen as such a musical lightweight.

So what song does she do where she sings she's "almost there, don't stop..."??

I think she's washed up. She's OBVIOUSLY not appealing to the younger audience as much anymore. I seriously would die if my lil sister were like, "Mommy! Mommy! Look at Britney Spears! She's the best!" while she's posing nude. However, in all honesty, I don't know who the HELL is gonna buy her cd! I mean, I know there are the longtime fans and of course they'll buy it. But I doubt many youngens are gonna buy it...and then there's the families that have always had an "issue" w/ her but let their kids buy her stuff b/c she didn't do stuff that bad...yea...she lost THAT audience. And I know most ppl my age HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE her. College students? They don't have enough money as it is, like they're really gonna go out and buy Britney Spears cd...woo...no. And NE1 older then that I think I'd be scarred for life if I saw them jammin to Britney Spears.

She's beginning to annoy me. She can't sing...and isn't she SMOKING now? *Rolls eyes* that's good for her voice. She's so computerized. And really, she is beginning to get trashy. I mean, ok, she has a good body, but there is such thing as going too far. I mean this is on the front of magazines. Little kids see this. Just b/c she has it *coughsiliconcough* doesn't mean she should show it off for the rest of the world. That's just trashy...it shows no class whatsoever. I don't want my lil sister seeing that crap. She used to be a really cute kid. Now she's just...ugh.

Britney's boobs are too saggy to be fake.

Just a random observation.

People would scan it in.

Yeah, Ive been a Britney fan since shes been out, so I love all her songs.

As for what Tim said.. yeah, theyre fake. Watch Crossroads when shes at the beach... they flop to the sides and shes flat as can be. Push up bras do wonders.

Cool Britney's club music

I do like the idea of Britney making her music more club/dance oriented.

I don't think there is anything necessarily wrong one's music to enhance an image of oneself, even if it is a sexy image. Britney is, after all, an entertainer. She is not a "real" artist/musician, say, like Alanis Morrissette or Courtney Love.
It's like what Dimebag Darryll (of Pantera) explained to Zakk Wylde (of Ozzy's band): it's music for someone else, there's an audience for it, it's not such a bad thing. It's just that her music needs to mature, even if it's in a pop context.
