Default Give your reason why you think Sanford and Son was not in the top ten during the

last season?

I think it had to do with the fact that these characters were not seen much anymore. Or if it not much, not at all.

Julio
Grady
Officer Smitty
Rollo

These characters were seen more between 73-and early 1975

I think the main reason S&S fell out of the top ten is simple viewer apathy, coupled with the fact that the writers were probably becoming bored with the characters. You can see the malaise that set in onscreen at this time, particularly with Redd and Demond, who were probably running out of original things to say and do with their characters...and let's face it, the show had been going for four seasons a a feverish clip...it was inevitable that things would slow down, all long-running shows do eventually...

I believe it was beacuse they kept moving it around on the schedule. That always hurts a series. But i could bee wrong though. Also, i think the show lost a great deal of its edge. They seemed to want to make Fred more respectable and successful. Also Lamont seemed get more nonexistant as the last season moved on. He was there but there was no chemistry with Fred. There arguments and shouting matches at each other in the earlier seasons were priceless.

You are probably right. I somehow thought they might have moved it to Saturday during its last season.

The show ran out of ideas and it was tired. You can see it in the final season that it a tired look. It look as though Demond Wilson nor Redd Foxx wanted to be there. Personally Redd Foxx's performances were never quite the same after his contract and salary dispute.

I disagree with that. Redd Foxx still had some classic episodes in the 74-75 and 75 76 season. Now i will admit that he was a little different in the last season. But these are two classic Fred Sanford episodes AFTER his contract disputes

There were several possible reasons why Sanford and Son fell out of the top ten in its last season:

1. More episodes focused on Lamont's relationship with Janet.

2. The familiar routines of Fred faking heart attacks and calling Lamont a dummy were becoming stale.

3. The loss of Whitman Mayo to the spinoff Grady.

The Spinoff Grady was cAncelled by the start of the last season of Sanford ans Son. Grady was canceled in March of 76 and the last season started in September of 76. But even if the show Grady was still on, i don't think the loss of Grady had anything to do with the Ratings.
