The 2000 CBS hospital drama "City of Angels" has found a syndicated afterlife on TV One, the upcoming cable network targeting blacks.
"Angels," starring Blair Underwood in a brief run during 2000, is the first off-network acquisition for TV One, a joint venture between Comcast Corp. and Radio One scheduled to launch in January 2004. Syndicator King World sold TV One all 24 episodes of "Angels," as well as all six episodes of another CBS drama, the James Earl Jones starrer "Under One Roof," which ran in 1995. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. TV One president and CEO Johnathan Rodgers cited the presence of strong black actors in his acquisition decision. "There aren't that many dramas about African-Americans out there, but we were fortunate enough to get some of the best," he said, adding that TV One expects to tap the bigger pool of urban comedies available in syndication in the near future. |
