What are the most annoying things about the LITB characters?
Ward: He is way too sexy to be annoying! June: I adore June but I think she was either to worried or not worried enough.... she would wrinkle her nose at dirt and worms but didn't show the "motherly emotions" over things like first dates or "milestones" in her boys' lives. Wally: This kid and his nose rubbing!!! Beaver: He was adorable as a little guy but when he hit puberty everything he did and said drove me nuts!! That voice of his!! Eddie Haskell: Funny as heck but why did he find it necessary to call Wally every name but his own? Fred Rutherford: Again, he was funny but he was so SUPERFICIAL! I would have liked to have seen Ward sock him just once. Lumpy: What a big bully! It drives me crazy how this guy calls Fred "DADDY" He does it in such a smarty pants way. Judy Hensler: This girl is just plain MEAN! No help for her. Larry Mondello: A jolly little fellow. Doesn't this kid ever stop eating? Whitey: This was a true cutey. I thought he was the best of Beaver's friends or at least the cutest. |

Ward: like you said, he is WAY too sexy to be annoying.
June: her overprotectiveness Wally: i really can't find anything wrong with WALLLYYY Beaver: damn almost everything!! from the excess stuttering he does and when he's older i try not to watch him!! his facial expressions, squinting and stuff, and when he's a teen he still acts like a 5 year old! Eddie: the way he treated others-especially wally when he thought wally was trying to steal his girl Fred Rutherford: he had no life of his own so he tried to get into ward's, uh i hate the way he bothers ward Lumpy: sexy, yet a big baby. but that's just me... Judy Hensler: need i start? EVERYTHING ABOUT HER ANNOYS ME Larry Mondello: he's sweet but getting beav into all those messes Whitey: another sweet friend of beaver's, i can't find anything wrong with him! Miss Canfield: she didn't know too much about children |

Most annoying things:
Beaver: his fantasy-world thinking that comes through so often, like when he says he will be a bank president and be the only b.p. who has a monkey [Stanley] for a friend . Is also too easy to sucker.Wally: his nervous habits of touching his ears or his nose, and stammering; especially when he's talking to one of his female admirers. His modesty about himself is alright, but he has no reason to be that shy and nervous. Ward: this is probably a change-in-generations issue, but he seems overly proprietary about many things at home-- "MY den" he is always saying, and when the boys make prank and long distance calls he tells them all, including Beaver, "You had no right to use MY phone without my permission!" And the family's one car is "MY car"... June: worries too much and is too detached from many things kids consider important; especially what may embarass them, as when she sent Beaver's naked baby picture to the school for a class 'beautiful baby' contest. Eddie: he is meant to be annoying, of course, but even then some of the conclusions he jumps to are still too silly, like when he thinks Wally is jealous of him in several eps. Also, the relatively few times he goes beyond facade and mischief and is downright mean, as in changing the grade on Beaver's report card or deliberately tricking Beaver into hurting 'Chuey's' feelings. Larry: a good friend/foil of Beaver's, but he can be too selfish and manipulative of his friend, as when he reneges on paying Beaver back the money he owes and goes to the movies with it while Beaver is waiting for him, and getting Beaver into trouble for hiding him when he runs away. Lumpy: just like a bully, he's really a coward, afraid to speak up to his 'daddy' or a teacher or coach. Judy: nosy, snobbish squealer Whitey: other than his whiney voice, just that, like any of Beaver's friends, he takes advantage and dupes him Gilbert/Richard: close to being the same character in 2 bodies, disloyal friends. Fred Rutherford: another meant-to-be-annoying character, he succeeds quite well-- dumb, noisy, boastful... The only character I find nothing at all annoying about is Miss Landers |

Gilbert's voice is whiny and annoying.
Judy is a big tattletale. Larry, Gilbert, Eddie and Lumpy have the annoying habit of getting Beaver and/or Wally into trouble and then saying, "I think I hear my mother calling." June is a worry wart. Ward is a little too perfect, which in itself can be a very annoying character trait. |

None of the characters annoy me. But if I had to pick something annoying it would have to be that June is the biggest NEB in town. I can't understand how she couldn't respect the boys privacy, listening to thier phone calls, rooting thru thier dresser drawers etc.

Beaver: Great as a young kid. However once he reached puberty, he became a bit annoying at times. He tried to act like he did as pre-pubescent, which didn' t work as he got older. Part of the problem were the writers, who gave him some pretty lame situations; situations that were really meant for a younger kid.
Wally: Nothing in particular annoyed me about him. June: Nothing much, but I thought she overreacted in "Wally's Haircomb" and "Beaver Won't Eat" Ward: While he retains his "Best Dad in all of TV" title, he was a bit too stern with the boys at times. Eddie: Nothing. He was great Lumpy: Funny, but stiff and unnatural in his acting. Sounding like he was reading his lines a lot. Larry: Great friend Beaver. A good actor Gilbert: Not a bad actor, but took advantange of Beaver. I know Larry took advantage of Beaver's naitivity at times, but Gilbert did it in an annoying way. Miss Landers: Nothing really annoyed me, given the context of what teachers did back in the late 50s and early 60s. Some of her activities such as "Pet Fair" and "Father and Son Picnic" would not go over too well in today's elementary schools, to say the least. Whitey: Nothing annoyed me about him. Judy: Nothing annoyed me about her. Penny: That ridiculous hairdoo of hers annoyed me. But then again, that was 1962, so what can we expect. Bill Scott: All I can say is, I'm glad he was dumped after four or so episodes! The boys should've thrown him off that roller coaster in "Beaver's Fear!" |

This is a little surprising, these different views of Miss Landers. But I can't see at all that she was annoying because of the activities that went on with her class. As for pet fairs, father & child picnics, and a beautiful baby contest-- I'm sure these things did go on at those times, so it wouldn't be the fault of a teacher for doing things considered normal and acceptable. But I think she was really fantastic; she took teaching very seriously, but she was always fair and understanding.

Beaver was always in a state of panic whenever Miss Landers gave out as assignment or notice of an event. He seemed to go into crisis and fear rejection because he could not measure up to her expectations and his peers. Most Beautiful Baby and Pet Fair were just a couple of times when he felt inferior to his classmates, and how about the time she sent a note home to his parents for saying a bad word, without listening first that some other student was bullying him. Miss Canfield was a more caring and sensitive teacher in my eyes than Miss Landers.

While Miss Canfield did seem to be a warmer, less stiff teacher (despite the fact that it was her first year in the classroom) than Miss Landers, I still have a place in my heart for teacher #2.
Granted, Miss Landers had some pretty lame ideas for what consituted as educationally challenging activities (Remember when she had the kids sing "row, row, row your boat? Weren't they in like 4th grade by this point? ) Then again, however, this was 1960 or so, when teachers and kids weren't all that sophisticated to begin with. Would Miss Landers' ideas go over in 2003? I think not! Nonetheless, I like Miss Landers. She reminds me somewhat of Miss Parker, my 3rd grade teacher back in '62. |

Boomer, how about if we have a most beautiful baby contest right here on this site. You can use the picture of you that 4449 airbrushed for you. Let's then take a poll!!!
![]() I still think Miss Landers was the most annoying character on the show and for a student to have a teacher for 3 years in a row is way too long. I do not think Mayfield had a Montessori school program in their community back then. |
