Default Commentaries on the DVDs

I was wondering if anyone knows when the commentaries on the DVDs were recorded? I assume they're new since there wouldn't have been a reason to record them until the DVDs were put together. Normally I don't listen to very many commentaries but couldn't wait to listen to these. I listened to the first one for Where Do I Come From last night and loved it! It's obvious that DVD and Carl Reiner have remained close friends and it was like watching the episode with them. Mr. Reiner in particular remembered a lot about the episode and shared a lot of fun little tidbits of information about the show itself and the cast. I like when Dick comments on how "quaint" it is that Rob and Laura sleep in separate beds and Carl says that they were all so embarassed to have to portray them that way but the network insisted on it because otherwise the audience might think that Rob and Laura had sex! Can't wait to hear the rest of the commentaries!

I watched that episode with the commentary, also and enjoyed it very much. I was wondering when the segments with Morey Amsterdam and Sheldon Leonard were filmed. They've done a great job making it look like they were there with Dick and Mary and Carl. Does anyone know?

I'll take a stab at it, guys.
Remember some of the past interviews and documentaries about TDVDS? Always when documentaries are filmed there's hours and hours of stuff that never gets aired for the sake of brevity. I'll bet those interviews alone lasted at least two hours each, and the stars answered all kinds of questions, and told many of their favorite stories. Later, the director decides what he or she will use in the final cut. Of course, a good producer never throws edited material like that away, in the same way an artist never destroys a painting, so I'll just bet that much, if not all, of the commentary came from such sources.
How'd I do?

Steve

Yes, you're right. Those interviews are from "The Dick Van Dyke Show Remembered" that I have on tape. I know b/c of the clothes Dick and Mary are wearing. But what Scott was asking about were the audio commentaries on certain episodes. Those must've been recorded recently, specifically for these DVD's.

The audio commentaries for specific episodes were recorded recently for use in these sets.

Default Commentaries

All of the commentary tracks on the DVDs are new and recent, having been recorded in only the past few months.
