Default The ladies in the photo above

Th heavier one is Ann Southern. But the thinner, prettier one is her daughter Tisha Sterling (also an actress).

Tisha Sterling reminds me of Lana Turner's daughter.

"The heavier one is Ann Sothern". Yes, she had problems controlling her weight from time to time, but that didn't mean she wasn't as pretty as her daughter Tisha!

Heavier women usually aren't as nice looking as thinner women. Usually!

Default Ann Sothern...

....KNEW that when she put on extra pounds, that it was time to insist on more "above the waist" camera shots, and wear dresses that made her look "slimmer". However, she never let her weight get in the way of her career. She was a "binge eater", and was affluent enough to get away with it. When she filmed her series at Desilu, did Lucy or Desi ever tell her to stop eating? I don't think so.

You don't know for a fact they (Desi and Lucy) didn't suggest to her that she lose weight. She may have had a solid contract with them to keep her show running and her weight gain was not leagl reason enough to cancel it. By the end of the Ann Southern Show run Ann was totally obese. She lost weight a few years later but she was never as nice looking as her daughter who to my knowledge has always been just about the correct weight.

There's a chapter about Ann in the biographical Lucy-Desi book Desilu. One former coworker relates a typical story of her binging between scenes--but prefaces the dishing with words something like "...Ann Sothern, who always had the most beautiful face in the world but had gained weight everywhere else...."

She was still a beautiful woman who certainly concealed her years even when she could not conceal her girth.

That most beautiful face in the world bit in the Desilu book is opinion indeed (Isabella Rossellini, Ingrid Bergman's kid, is considered by some the most beautiful girl on earth)! Look, Anne was great looking no doubt and I somewhat agree with you on that but I firmly believe, along with this original poster,
her daughter was even better to look at. Some people think Tisha Sterling would have been good as 99 on Get Smart (Sterling was on an ep of GS and she did well with Don Adams, but any Barbara Feldon fans need not take offense because this could be just saying that Sterling would have been just as good as Feldon in the role, though honestly with a presumably prettier face than pretty Feldon she might have even been better as 99, face it
years of Feldon in the role make it hard to conceive of any else playing the character).

And TD, you didn't prove with your quoting that book (which btw I believe I read before) that Desi Sr. and Lucy didn't ask Sothern to lose weight!
