Default Eddie Murphy abandoned his comedy roots?

Does anyone think that Eddie Murphy has abandonded his comedy roots? His latest movie "Daddy Day Care", Eddie Murphy 10, 20 years ago, would never have done. All of his movies from the last few years are family comedies. What happened to his R rated comedy movies?

I remember his early movies, and his characters on Saturday Night Live, (I loved the sketch when he put on white makeup and pretended to be white, and found out what a long way we have to go until all men are truly equal) it was edgy comedy, not suitable for children. What happened? Even movies like Coming to America was a family movie, but still had jokes for adults.

I have no problem with Eddie doing family comedies, I loved the "Nutty Professior" movies, but could he do some R rated movies also? Why is he doing this? Did he a re awaking and decided not to do movies with dirty jokes, or is he simply taking the roles that are given to him, because his career is in decline.

Your last sentence is the reason, in my opinion. Too bad because I've always been a fan.

Have u seen previews for his upcoming flick? It's another family comedy. It's about him taking his family to a haunted house. It looks corny. I wish he would do more R rated comedies too like his earlier films. I think he's just taking roles that are offered to him cause his career sucks now LOL. It seems like ever since he gave that transvestite a ride home, his career has been going downhill LOL. Life was the last good movie he's done.

Oyeah, "Life" I forget about that one. He did that movie in 1999. I thought he did no R rated movies post 96, he slipped "Life" though me. That was a good movie. When he does this family films, it is easy to forget. Also, I don't considner "Hollyman" a family movie, but it still sucked.

We have many talented young comedic actors who are taking Eddie's place. But they are not as good as Eddie Murphy. But to be fair Eddie Murphy is not as good as his predicisour Richard Pryer, Eddie took Richard's place because of age and health reasons. Eddie is still young and in good health. He has turned from his generation's Pryer to his generation Bill Cosby. (the anti Pryer)

I never thought that Eddie Murphy was as intense and X-Rated as Richard Pryor. I could be basing some of this on Pryor's standup comedy which was off the charts.
Although Murphy made some dark movies, he just seems more wholesome than Pryor ever was. I loved his SNL work.
I consider Eddie Murphy to be middle of the road...between Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby.
BTW, Daddy Day Care was one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.
Eddie needs a hit, and I hope he has one soon.

Yeah, I see you point. But I think some has to do with the different climate of the times. The 80's were more pc than the 70's. The things Pryer did in the 60's and 70's, he could not do in the Reagon eighties. I always thought Pryer and Murphy were different type of preformers. But in terms of the complete package, and compaired to his peers, Eddie was the closest thing to Pryer. But if Eddie Murphy is in the middle of the road between Pryer and Cosby, he is moving closer to Cosby.

Not that there is anything wrong with Bill Cosby. Cosby does his thing, but that is not Eddie.

TVJE u can't spell LOL. Richard's last name is spelled Pryor. Daddy Day Care sucked huh? I was thinkin about renting that. Well i guess i'll pass now LOL. I see Leila Arcieri was in Daddy Day Care. The little boy who plays on the tv show All Of Us as LisaRaye & Duane Martin's son was in that movie too. LOL@Holy Man movie hahahahahahahahahahaha. That movie was terrible. The Distinguished Gentleman movie wasn't that bad & i liked Eddie's Metro movie with Michael Rappaport & Carmen Ejogo who was Eddie's woman in the movie. Carmen is very attractive. I wonder how Richard Pryor is doing. He looks like he doesn't have much longer to live in some pictures i've seen him in sitting in a wheelchair. Richard's See No Evil Hear No Evil movie with Gene Wilder was hilarious. Him & Gene played good together. I also like Richard's Moving & Jo Jo Dancer movies. Those are my favorites of his. Harlem Nights is also a classic. Martin Lawrence's movies suck now too. His Black Knight & What's The Worst That Could Happen movies were horrible LOL. I never saw Black Knight but i could tell from the previews, it sucked. His National Security movie wasn't much better either. Martin used to be the man in the early 90's.
