Hi,
I do believe that he announced it on every episode, so for all four years is what I'm guessing. |

His voice was heard on every episode from debut to cancellation.

Casey Kasem was the original announcer for the pilot of SOAP. Probably because Casey wasn't available to do the series, Rod Roddy was hired and revoiced the pilot before it aired and was the only announcer for the four year run.

Casey made himself not available because he didn't care for the plotlines. Rod Roddy (much more subdued than we'd hear him on Press Your Luck and The Price Is Right) got the job as a result.

Don,
Where did you get this info? I worked on all the episodes of the show. I did not work on the original pilot, but did work on the couple of scenes that were reshot for the pilot and all the rest of the series. I had also worked with Casey before and after SOAP. I would be surprised to know that he would even be privy to any storylines. The story was laid out by Susan Harris, but she didn't write the scripts much in advance of the shooting. Casey was good friends with Tony Thomas and worked with our group for the St. Jude Telethon hosted by Tony's Dad, Danny Thomas. |
