Sad Why There Won't Be A Reunion

First, I don't know anymore than what I have gathered from the internet, interviews, tv appearances etc. So I don't know any inside information. It could still be happening, I hope so anyway.

Here's why I think there WON'T be a FOL reunion:

1. Lisa Whelchel will be going on her book tour for 1 full year, check out her schedule, she doesn't go back to LA until July 2002. Therefore, if the reunion is going to be taped it has to be before she leaves, they have to do it in the next month or so. Still, this doesn't mean there won't be a reunion, they could do it in 2002 I guess. However, this is unlikely since they want to take advantage of the FOL revival caused by Nick At Nite.

2. Kim Fields on Millionaire. Did you see how embarassed she looked when they showed the FOL clip? She also didn't mention FOL at all. If there was going to be a reunion taping soon and she had anything to do with it, she would have "plugged" it. Count on it.

3. Nancy McKeon's chat. She directly contradicts what Lisa Whelchel said in the summer of 2000 in Entertainment Weekly.

acme4689 asks: Hey, what's going on with "The Facts of Life" reunion? Are you doing it?

nancy_mckeon: Unfortunately that particular story has spun wildly out of control! And no there are no plans for a reunion involving me at least.

4. Early on, the rumor was that neither Nancy or Kim wanted to do it. Do you really think they would consider doing this movie without TWO of the major characters? No way. I think they MIGHT consider re-casting Kim or using the Jo dies idea to substitute if one of them wasn't doing it, but not both. That's too far out even for network TV.

Conclusion:

As much as we want it, there won't be a reunion movie.

This is just my gut feeling. Please add your comments and thoughts about this.

I was excited about a reunion at first, but now, I may be a little worried. I mean, think of TV reunions of the past. Some have been judged as the worst around. How about The Brady Bunch, which is known as the reunion killer (even though I liked them). This was the overall reason when, on the set of the final ep of FOL, the cast made a pact never to do a reunion show, because it would tarnish their careers. And, from the way Nancy and Kim have been acting, they may be keeping their word to it. If you go to www.thefactsoflife.com/ and go to the articles section, you will read about this, from 6/13/88 TV Guide. Lisa Whelchel talked all about it. And how to turn down a spin-off series to keep true to the pact. I'll shut up now.

Personally I think there will be a reunion..

It is confirmed that Charlotte, Lisa, and Mindy will be in it.

The production may start shooting in a couple months before Lisa's tour..or she may take a break..

Because I heard from people on this board that the reunion would be filmed this summer..

But I don't know..hope for the best..

There WILL be a reunion. It was confirmed in Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago, I believe.

I agree with Mary. Reunions usually aren't so great. Let's take Growing Pains as an example. There are some things better left alone--but then again the Facts of Life ending solved nothing. And I mean nothing. Growing Pains did have a great ending--therefore, they really didn't need a reunion movie. I think the fans of the Facts of Life deserve a reunion though. You watch a show for 9 years and then it just ends. There should be closure. Not just, let's get Natalie on a phone and have Andy, Beverly Ann, Jo and Tootie on camera for 5 minutes.

But again, there WILL be a reunion--whether it's good or bad remains to be seen.

I do not know if they will make a reunion movie or not. I almost hope they don't. I would love to see a movie with all of the characters alive and well, or even one with Blair, Nat, and Mrs. G. But I do not want to see any characters recast or heaven forbid, dead. I respect the fact that Nancy McKeon and Kim Fields do not seem to want to make this movie. They have every right to make that choice. If they make a movie without them, I think Jo and Tootie should just be out of town or something. There are always ways to explain someone's absence.

I don't really care if they don't have a reunion or not. Here's my opinion: I don't think they should do it because it wouldn't be a good reunion without the two MAJOR characters. I can understand that Nancy and Kim don't want to do the reunion, it's their choice and their descision. But I really don't see the point in doing it with Jo being killed of and Kim being replaced and then the reunion show would be a total flop in the ratings. That's what I think but then again I'm only 12 I don't know anything about it I started watching FOL since 2 weeks ago.

Madness,
What exactly did EW say about it? I never saw that issue. I certainly hope they make a reunion but I'm just saying that it does not look good. I get the feeling someone got the idea for it, started the ball rolling, but with all the latest info it seems to have been shelved, for now at least. Regardless, I don't think Entertainment Weekly would be the authority for whether or not it will happen.

There was a little write up and it said something like production to start sometime in 2001. I don't remember it clearly off hand but if I find it, I'll let you know. Entertainment Weekly is very reliable though.

The sure indication that a reunion movie is in or nearing production will be listed in the entertainment trade pubs like Hollywood Reporter or Daily Variety. Keep an eye on their production listings for the rest of this year, and you will know.

Death is a fact of life. If Jo is killed that's that. I can see why Kim Fields doesn't want to do it. But Nancy McKeon wants to lose her "Jo" image. Well by playing Jinny she's partially taking it back. I think they should do it and I think that they should have one of the characters die. Death is a fact of life, the worst one and the one that all the girls haven't experienced together. So I think that is the right plot for the reunion.
