In the last episode, Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen. Where was Hawkeye headed in the last few minutes of the episode? Was he heading back to America? Or was he heading back to the mental institution? And what made him go crazy? Was there a specific atribute that made go wacko?

Good grief. Suddenly I'm very glad those episodes weren't included the last time the show was repeated here in the UK. What the hell happened to the quirky, oddball show of the first three seasons?! Then it managed to get its anti-war message across without resorting to such a hammer and anvil approach. Give me the days of Trapper and cheery Hawkeye any day!

We're going to annoy Screenwriter by going O/T (
), but there's a reason for that, Wily93. Trapper was a real character. The original book of M*A*S*H, which the film and the TV show were based on, is pretty much autobiographical. Hawkeye as of the early days, and Trapper, were real people. Admittedly the TV versions were a little different to the book, but they still had more flesh to them that the later additions to the show.
