Thumbs down Worst acting of season one

It seems to me that not everyone in the first season cast was cut out to be a great actress. Not that they weren't cute or nice or darn fine people when the cameras weren't rolling -- just less than fantastic actors.
* Like, did Sue Ann ever deliver a speech that didn't sound like she was shouting it to the back rows of a high school auditorium?

Got any other nominees?

I'm inclined to agree with that nomination!
<g>

It always seemed like Sue Ann was out of her league when she tried to go head to head with Blair. Whelchel did a great job, even in the early eps, and Sue Ann just seemed to be reciting lines.

I always thought Cindy wasn't so great, and Molly for that matter. It's a wonder she came out of that with such a good film career. I guess there's proof you can grow as an actor (George Clooney also falls under that)

Adoptee-

I agree with you about Sue Ann. It seemed as if she just spoke her line and yelled it, hoping it would sound and look all right. The actress who played her wasn't that great IMO. When Jo came and got up in Blair's face and all I was like 'now that's how it's supposed to be done'. I read an article today about Nancy and Lisa and they described Nancy a beauty with a rough edge-I think that is a good description. I loved it every time Jo would tell Blair off, and then the 1st season starts showing again and Sue Ann just can't compare to Jo.

I wasn't to fond of Nancy's acting ability either. I many anyone can stand there and talk on a phone. Also, there's no telling HOW MANY TIMES she says Roger in those first 13 episodes...ugh!

Molly wasn't too great at that point either and Cindy didn't impress me.

Someone who DID impress me though and made me smile every time was Kim Fields. She kept a straight facea majority of the time and she just had that 'preppiness' to her. I loved it!

ALSO, after watching the first season again Mindy, in my opinion, did better in the first season than she did in the second. I know she wasn't trained to be an actress, but in the second season, and on through til about the fifth, she seemed to crack a smile every time it was her turn to deliver a funny line. Oh well, gotta love Natalie!

Ok, that's just my out take on things so I'll shut up now!

[Jo to Blair]
Jo: Did you know that when you shake hands your lips 'pucker'?

Beverly Ann: Let's see. It's tomorrow in Africa so if I want to talk to Edna today then I should have called her yesterday...
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
Blair: The worst thing about falling asleep at the wheel is that I didn't get to see my whole life flash in front of my eyes.
Jo: Well that woulda killed ya for sure.

It's true that Sue Anne was loud, but the first season was OK. It's one of my favorites. Nancy got better in season 2.

Blair(Lisa Whelchel) and Tootie(Kim Fields) were the two best actresses imo in Season 1. I enjoyed Molly, too.

No one else really stood out in a positive way. I read the same criticism of 'Sue Ann' on another message board. Maybe she thought she was still in the new 'Mickey Mouse Club' and had to yell all of her lines. It's hard for me to be too critical, though, because I know I couldn't have done much better at that age.

Tootie: Muffy? Her name is Muffy? What kind of person is named Muffy?

Jo: Beats me, Tootie.

Red face

Sue-Ann and Blair had the light-weight scripts most of the time. Sue-Ann would talk about Greg Hockney, now he's a hunk. And Blair would say He's the captain of the debating team, and then Molly would sing a stupid song.

Nancy had the worst script in season one with the roger shtick. Like as said before Nancy became more interesting in season 2 after she was fired and demoted to recurring status. She seemed to stand out more, like how she deliverd her lines in the sex symbol episode "intersting look blair did you leave your tiara at the cleaners". I also noticed that nancy was the only one referred to by her name in the script, sueann and cindy were never called by there name after season one.(the producers must of had a change of heart about nancy) I still think they all grew as actresses in the little chill episode.

I liked Nancy and Roger! Ofscreen characters is a sitcom must! Natalie had that with Snake for a lil while.

I thought that Blair and Tootie were the best actresses.

hi, well I agree completely with you about Sue Ann, I think she was trying to act more than be her self, what I mean is on a tv show it looks better when you aren't acting it out to much, its like you are having fun doing it, and she just didn't seem to be having fun.

I thought Tootie aka Kim Fields was fret she was very cute, I really liked her until she got older, I just didn't think she was as cute in the later seasons.

Natalie I didn't care for much in the first seasons because she jsut wasn't very funny to me, I mean she had her moments but in the later seasons after Jo came she became funnier. Its like Jo opened everyone up to show how they really are.

Now Jo, on my opinion was perfect the whole time ( but I think that because Nancy McKeon is my favorite). These are jsut my opinions so I hope I didn't offend anyone, I could say more about the other characters but I don't want to bore you guys. If you would like to talk about fol or nancy or anything jsut email me, thanks

Yeah, I'd have to go with Sue Ann too, for all the yellin' and physical overactin'---shakin' her head too much, thrustin' her neck out too much...sheesh.

And even though Cindy is my favorite, there were a few lines in that season that I really wish she coulda had a second take with---ironically, though, in her 2 main ones ("Rough Housing" and "Running"), she seemed to be pretty natural the whole time...

I guess Molly and Nancy were okay, but Blair, Tootie, and Natalie were always good. Surprise, surprise, and look who stayed on for the rest of the series?

I dunno...I liked Sue Ann...but, I guess that's just me...

but, yea, I agree with that other stuff...I did like Cindy...

I thought Molly could be a little annoying at times, with all the run-on sentences.

I liked Nancy, EXCEPT, she was ALWAYS talking about ROGER!! GEESHA BEESHA!! I mean, she's worse than me ALWAYS talking about Charlotte/FOL!!

Well, I like Sue Ann in the first four episodes, and ones like "Running" and "Overachieving" where she doesn't try to best Blair so much. I like her better on her own or with other characters---Blair just seems to bring out the worst in her, lol.

@your Nancy remarks! Well, at least you have the first 4 episodes---there's no Roger there!
