At the TV DVD Conference in Los Angeles; Paramount had a recorded presentation about their future DVD plans, and 7th Heaven, Charmed, Mission: Impossible, Resurrection Blvd. and The Hitchhiker were all mentioned. However, no release timeframe was given. For more information visit TV Shows On DVD.com.

Yea, I'm not doing cartwheels with the release of this info either.

This is just one more indicator that the studios are only going to focus on the under 25 market with their selections. I talked to Mr. Blythe (the man in charge of Paramount's TV on DVD release dept.) a few months ago and asked about the possibility of them releasing one of their all time classic shows, The Fugitive, on dvd some time soon, and needless to say he didn't seem overly thrilled with the idea.

I'm really growing tired of the disproportionate release of newer tv shows to dvd versus older classics. It's extremely one-sided, and these news items are anything but good news to me any more.

BTW, in the event someone posts an objection to my contention based on Paramount's info, let me clarify:

While I am mildly happy that Paramount is considering "Happy Days", I still have to say there choices are too modern for my liking. Shows that originally ran in the late 70's or early 80's are not what I'm after, for the most part. I want to see these studio's start dipping into their 50's and 60's shows more. Yes, they are in black & white, and many younger people aren't as familiar with them, but I'd bet that with proper advertising they could sell these shows to people in the 30's and up.

My sentiments exactly. I'm on dvd boards and all I see is people who can't wait for Smallville Season 2, or some other relatively recent series. I love current stuff like 24 and the Sopranos, both of which I've gotten familiar with through dvd. But there's so much great older stuff that we haven't even begun to see released on dvd yet. It's amazing how fans of present day tv are bitching about having to wait for Gilmore Girls or Roswell dvds, while fans of older programs have been by comparison sorely underserved during the tv-on-dvd revolution we've been going through. Well anyway, I'll definitely be picking up Paramount's Honeymooners Classic 39 set.

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone with my feelings. I guess we can only hope, by some miracle, that the places like Paramount will understand...

I would love to see Eight is Enough on DVD, but that seems unlikely at the moment.
I am thrilled with the recent release of some of the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour episodes and am hoping for more editions.
You mentioned DVD boards. Which are the best?
Thanks for any recommendations!
Susan

Two good ones are Home Theater Forum and Dvdfile.
