I saw something on AOL saying Della Reese has diabetes now & has had it for 4 yrs now. So keep her in her prayers as I know how devastating this disease is. I have it as well as my hubby & my dad & my late uncle & late grandma. This is the 2nd person in Freddies life to have it as his mom Maria has it too. Della will be a great spokeperson for diabetes awareness I think. Do get tested for diabetes. It is better to catch it now than too late & have complications from it... Also remember Nov is National Diabetes Awareness Month...

Della Reese Meets Challenge of Diabetes

WASHINGTON (AP) - Actress and singer Della Reese was raised to believe that ``chicken is made to fry.''

But a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes about four years ago has forced her to change her ways - and her diet.

Instead of frying her food, she's using a lot of spices for flavor, she said Tuesday at a conference to raise awareness among women with diabetes.

``God has given us this good life, and we've just pigged out on it,'' she said.

Since her diagnosis, Reese said she's exercising more, including spending about 30 minutes a day on a stationary bike.

Before being diagnosed, Reese said she rarely exercised.

``I would drive my car up to your porch,'' she said.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common and typically affects adults, but younger people who are obese may be stricken as well.

The pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline is sponsoring Reese's ``Stronger than Diabetes'' campaign to raise awareness. Reese said she takes the company's diabetes drug Avandia.

``I decided I would be stronger than diabetes,'' she declared.

I also support diabetes. With a hubby who has it and I see how weak he is sometimes. He always has to carry something to eat. I pray for him everyday........

I hope they find a cure for it.

Prayers just said foir you & your hubby. I can feel for ya & know what you are going thru. Mike has low sugars & sometimes it can be a real scary crises. He almost died in his sleep twice. Sounds like Della is handling her diabetes very wel.l. May God Bless those touched by diabetes...

My mother in law lost both legs and her eyesight to this terrible disease before dying from it. I also have a student with the juvenile strain of it. It is a terrible disease and I pray every day that they find a cure for it.

My mother has had it for 30 years and five years ago dec 16th my sister gave her a kidney. we are now awaiting the results to see how much of her pinky toe and her foot she will lose, please pray for her as well

My husband's best friend has diabetes so bad that his skin is sensative and just touching he is in a lot of pain.

I will pray for Della, my mother has diabetes and it caused her to have a stroke about two years ago...So I understand anyone who has a love one with this disease...
