LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In the latest move by Hollywood's major studios and television networks to generate a new revenue stream from TV series, "The Ben Stiller (news) Show" is coming out on DVD on Dec. 2.

The two-disc boxed set will boast plenty of extras including a never-aired episode, according to Stiller and Warner Home Video.

"I've been asking them for years to do this," Stiller said, "and when I saw the special boxed DVD set of 'Saved by the Bell,' I knew we had a chance."

In September, Lions Gate Home Entertainment released a five-disc DVD boxed set of the NBC series "Saved by the Bell: Seasons One & Two." The late-'80s/early '90s series focused on a group of high school students, featuring topics ranging from popularity and the prom to death and drug use.

WHV will release the entire 12-episode "Stiller" series, plus the unaired episode, in a set expected to retail for about $25. "Stiller" was the subject of wide critical acclaim but lasted only half a season on Fox in 1992-93. The show, created by Stiller and Judd Apatow and starring Janeane Garofalo (news), Bob Odenkirk and Andy Dick (news), has been credited with having been the best original Fox series debut since "The Simpsons (news - Y! TV)," which is now the top-selling TV-to-DVD series.

Ironically, after its cancellation on Fox, the HBO series won an Emmy in 1993 for comedy writing, beating out "Saturday Night Live (news - Y! TV)," "In Living Color" and "The Edge."

The "Stiller" double-disc DVD is expected to also feature such extras as commentaries by Stiller along with cast and writers for the show on seven key episodes; "Brief History of 'The Ben Stiller Show,"' including alternate versions of the pilot and two early parodies made for MTV; five unaired sketches with optional commentary; and an Easter egg with "Melrose Heights" commentary by Stiller and Odenkirk.

SBTB Geek, or anyone who has it, what do you think of the SBTB dvd set? Aside from the fact they didn't include Miss Bliss episodes, are you happy with the dvd? I really want to get it but it seems episodes are out of sequence and if I'm not mistaken there's not even an insert listing the episodes. I rented disc one and it really made me want to buy it for the show itself, but I keep hearing the dvd presentation isn't the greatest.

To tell you the truth... I am a bit disappointed on the DVD, and that's because it lacks extras. There is nothing other than "just the show."
Quality wise, both picture and sound is superb. The episodes are listed in every flap, and they ARE in sequence, in order of production.
Hopefully for the rest of the seasons, the DVD's will include commentary, behind the scenes/goofs, or something else to make it more interesting.

But if your a SBTB fan, the DVD should still be an essential part of your collection.
