Default Tim Daly "Loves" Joe Hackett

After watching last night's "Wilder Days" TV movie, I am convinced that Tim Daly has a genuine fondness for the "Joe Hackett" character....

There was a LITTLE of "Joe" in the character that Tim played on "Judging Amy" last year, but in last night's TV-movie, Tim's character was a LOT like Joe....businesslike, uptight, etc....even "anal" about rubbing a spot out of a car's hood! As I mentioned in another thread, Tim even LOOKED the most like Joe that I've seen him look in a long time (no spiked hair, no beard, etc.).

It's not that Tim isn't a versatile actor and CAN'T portray other types of charcters...He's successfully played everything from religious cult leaders to sleazy drug dealers, but Joe Hackett is a character which has obviously made a lasting impression on him.

Other "Wings" actors don't seem to feel the same way about their characters....Thomas Haden Church almost RESENTED "Lowell", and felt that Lowell was holding him back as an actor. When Church left "Wings" he tried to get as far away from "Lowell" as possible.
Tony Shaloub was planning on leaving "Wings" at the end of it's eighth season if it planned on returning for a ninth, and I really haven't seen Tony bring much of "Antonio" to his post-"Wings" characters (although Tony IS superb in just about anything that he does) .....but Tim just seems to enjoy bringing "Joe" out of mothballs every so often and putting some of the character into new characters that he portrays....

Actually, it's kind of nice to see!

Then he goes and plays Larry in "Free Money", which wasn't quite a stretch from Lowell at all...
