Florence MacMichael Season One: 1961 1-The First Meeting Wilbur is shocked as the horse in his barn starts talking to him--and his wife and neighbors are even more shocked. 2-The Ventriloquist Ed gets Wilbur into trouble as he tries to win a contract to build a clubhouse. 3-Busy Wife Carol catches the club woman bug and neglects Wilbur--who finally cures her with the help of Ed. 4-Stable for Three Ed becomes a nuisance by knocking over a barbecue and eating Carol's planted vegetables. Wilbur and Addison both end up sleeping in the barn. 5-Kiddy Park Insulted by vacation plans that don't include him, Ed runs away to start a new life. 6-Sorority House Wilbur must come to Ed's rescue when he serves as a mascot--only to be stolen by the rival team. 7-Little Boy At a party arranged by Carol for the neighborhood boys, Ed ends the ostracism of a new boy by proving his bravery to the others. 8-Ed, the Lover Ed balks at playing in a western--but the filly star falls in love with him and Wilbur persuades the talking horse to return to the set. 9-Pageant Show Wilbur upsets Ed when he removes an extension phone from the barn, but Ed plays tricks on Wilbur and Carol. 10-The Aunt Wilbur's long-needed vacation is disturbed by the arrival of a tireless aunt--with her talking parrot. 11-Missing Statue Wilbur decides an antique statue is a small price to pay to avoid Carol's fish diet. 12-Ed, the Witness When Wilbur languishes in a Mexican jail for refusing to pay a repair bill to a mechanic who damaged his trailer, Ed comes to the rescue. 13-Ed's Mother Ed bids for his mother at an auction when he finds that she has been working as a plow horse on a farm. 14-Ed, the Tout With Ed's help, Wilbur picks a winning racehorse for Carol and his neighbors--but they bet on a nag that Wilbur has mistakenly circled. 15-Ed, the Songwriter Through an elaborate ruse, Wilbur has a music publisher record a song composed, written and sung by Ed. 16-Ed, the Stool Pigeon Jealous because Wilbur and Carol have adopted a poodle as a pet, Ed contrives to get the pup into trouble. 17-Psychoanalyst Show Ed develops a fear of high places and Wilbur engages a psychiatrist to cure him. However, everyone thinks it's Wilbur who has the problem. 18-A Man for Velma The Posts hire a very good cook who threatens to quit because there are no eligible men on the premises. 19-Ed Agrees to Talk Ed charges he is being mistreated by Carol--because she has him hitched to a surrey when Wilbur refuses to buy her a car. 20-Ed's New Shoes A handyman hired by Wilbur to give Ed new shoes creates pandemonium when he squirts water on a photographer for a fancy magazine. 21-The Mustache Addison convinces Wilbur that he can land a pending architectural job--if he only would make himself look older. 22-The Contest Ed tutors Wilbur for a $5,000 jackpot. Ed talks on the phone, studies reference books and even foreign languages for the contest. 23-The Other Woman To Carol's dismay, Wilbur utters another woman's name in his sleep. She is relieved to discover it is the name of a horse Ed wants Wilbur to buy. 24-Wilbur Sells Ed Ed falls in love with a filly owned by a big builder and convinces Wilbur to sell him, almost ruining Wilbur's contract. 25-Ed Cries Wolf Ed tells fibs to get Wilbur to play chess with him; therefore Wilbur doesn't believe him when Ed tells him there really is a thief in the house. 26-Pine Lake Lodge Wilbur and Carol go to Pine Lake Lodge on a vacation, leaving Ed behind--despite of his protests. Season Two: 1961-1962 27-My Son, My Son Ed finds a gray hair in his tail and decides that he is getting old. He wants a boy of his own. 28-The Horsetronaut Wilbur has to take an office downtown, away from Ed, who feels unwanted. Ed decides to get out of Wilbur's way for good. 29-Ed,he Jumper An old college buddy taunts Wilbur into entering Ed in a jumping contest against his racing horse. 30-Ed, the Redecorator Carol wants the house done over in a Hawaiian motif. Ed thinks Wilbur should redo the barn first. 31-Ed's Ancestors Ed is to be used as a model for a park statue glorifying the American Palomino, but he refuses until his ancestry is cleared up. 32-Ed, the Voter Ed objects when Carol tells Wilbur that the barn is to be used for polling. 33-Ed, the Hero Ed saves the life of a little girl in the park, and her grandfather invites the Posts and Ed to his palatial estate in Catalina. Ed won't go. 34-Hunting Show Ed objects to hunting when he discovers the Posts and the Addisons have planned a camping weekend devoted to the sport. 35-Mister Ed's Blues Ed doesn't want to cooperate when everyone wants Wilbur to compose a hit song that will save a music company from bankruptcy. 36-Ed and the Elephant Wilbur boards a magician's elephant in the barn, and Jumbo drives Mister Ed frantic with his antics. 37-Ed, the Salesman Ed expects a gift from Wilbur on their first anniversary: a color television. When Wilbur refuses, Ed takes matters into his own hands. 38-Zsa Zsa The star has to make a western movie but is uncomfortable with horses. Wilbur loans Ed to Zsa Zsa Gabor. 39-Ed, the Beneficiary Ed reads of a cat who is willed a great deal of money--and wants to know if he is in Wilbur's will. 40-Ed's Bed Carol wants to leave Wilbur because he is spending so much time with Ed trying to cure his cold. 41-The Wrestler Addison and Wilbur go halves in backing a wrestler who eats them out of house and home, and takes ballet lessons with girls. 42-Ed, the Horse Doctor Addison buys a racehorse that has great promise until she comes down with an unknown illness. Ed to the rescue! 43-Horse Wash Wilbur's father-in-law decides to visit the Posts at a time when Ed is trying to reduce his weight to impress a new filly. 44-Ed's Word of Honor Ed's word of honor is at stake when Wilbur and Addison have a falling-out over a birthday gift from the Posts. 45-Ed, the Beachcomber Addison's beach property is put in jeopardy by a group of beatniks. Wilbur tries to help and ends up with his own beatnik problem. 46-George Burns Meets Mister Ed George Burns offers $25,000 for a new act to make an appearance with him in Las Vegas. Wilbur realizes he has a gold mine in Ed. 47-Ed's New Neighbors The Addisons inherit a large estate in the east, and after seeing the new neighbors, even Ed is sorry to see them go. 48-Bald Horse Ed thinks he is losing his hair and has Wilbur frantic trying all the home remedies--until the real reason for the disappearing hair comes to light. 49-No Horses Allowed When Carol unwittingly signs a petition to eliminate horses from the neighborhood, Wilbur tries to have the petition recalled. 50-Ed, the Matchmaker The teenage daughter of the Posts' new neighbors gets Wilbur and Carol involved in her romantic problems. 51-Clint Eastwood Meets Mister Ed A temporary party line on the phone allows Ed to court Clint Eastwood's horse. However, his antics wreak havoc between Eastwood and Wilbur. 52-Lie Detector Addison asks Wilbur to help him finance a new lie detector machine, causing chaos in the Post home. 53-Ed and the Secret Service Carol and Kay try to emulate the First Lady and make their husbands join the hunt club. Wilbur wants to ride Ed in the hunt--but Ed won't jump. Season Three: 1962-1963 54-Ed Gets Amnesia Ed is accidentally hit in the head with a bucket of carrots and gets amnesia. He doesn't remember or recognize Wilbur. 55-Wilbur, the Good Samaritan When Ed inadvertently causes a newsboy to lose his job, Wilbur and Addison each suspect the other of being the heavy. 56-Wilbur's Father Wilbur's father is planning to remarry. Ed tricks Wilbur into thinking that the woman's daughter is the bride. 57-Wilbur in the Lion's Den Ed talks Wilbur into taking him to the park for some kite flying, much to the chagrin of Carol and the Addisons. 58-The Bashful Clipper Wilbur thinks that Ed looks unkempt and needs a clipping. He engages an accomplished young hairdresser to do the job. 59-Wilbur and Ed in Show Biz While Wilbur is working on plush living quarters for an elephant, Ed is swiping apples from Addison's apple tree. 60-Ed and the Allergy Wilbur has promised to take Ed camping, but Addison's mother-in-law arrives and upsets their plans. 61-Horse Sense Addison's letter to the editor fails when he wants the bridle path removed in favor of extending the golf course. 62-Ed and Paul Revere As chairman of the Community Art Committee, Addison hires a sculptor to do a statue of his ancestor, Paul Revere. 63-Wilbur, the Masher Wilbur, while riding in the park, gets into trouble with a beautiful married woman--while Ed is smitten with the filly she is riding. 64-Horse Party Ed realizes that it's his birthday and tries to talk Wilbur into throwing him a party. 65-Ed, the Pilgrim Ed talks himself out of Thanksgiving dinner; in trying to rectify the situation he tells Wilbur the real story of Thanksgiving. 66-Disappearing Horse Ed is reluctant to appear as part of Wilbur's variety show magic act. 67-Ed and the Bicycle Ed's feelings are hurt when Wilbur takes up bicycling, but he gets the last laugh when Wilbur realizes that he can't talk to a bicycle. 68-Horse of a Different Color Addison stands to make a lot of money when the circus comes to town, as they will be using his property. 69-The Blessed Event Ed is happy to learn he is about to become an uncle, and starts typing a list of names suitable for a young colt. 70-Ole Rockin' Chair Wilbur builds a unique rocking chair out of Ed's old shoes, but no one appreciates Wilbur's efforts until an antique dealer becomes interested. 71-Unemployment Show Ed becomes unemployed after Wilbur puts him to work at the stable. Then he feels he is entitled to unemployment insurance. 72-Big Pine Lodge The Posts and Addisons decide to take Ed with them when they go skiing at Big Pine Lodge. Ed aids them in outsmarting card sharks. 73-Horse Talk Ed and Wilbur come to the aid of a handyman who was unjustly accused of doping a horse before a big race. 74-Working Wives After curbing their wives' spending, Wilbur and Addison are left to the housework when the women find jobs to earn their own money. 75-Ed, the Emancipator Wilbur and Carol buy Kay Addison a cockatoo for her birthday, much to the disappointment of Addison--but to the delight of Ed. 76-The Price of Apples Ed is taken with a mad desire for Addison's apples and becomes an appleholic, but Addison is unsympathetic. 77-Doctor Ed When Addison's TV set goes on the blink, he borrows the one in Wilbur's office. Ed is upset because he can't watch his favorite doctor series. 78-Ed, the Zebra When Addison wants him to pose for an undignified contest photo, Ed runs away to the zoo incognito. 79-Wilbur Post, Honorary Horse Addison has Wilbur working on the design of a new building he proposes to build, but Ed distracts him with ideas for a horse book. 80-Patter of Little Hooves Ed enters a newspaper's puzzle contest and Wilbur ends up winning a live miniature horse, which Ed adopts as his own. Season Four: 1963-1964 81-Leo Durocher Meets Mister Ed Ed, a staunch L.A. Dodger fan, spots a few batting weaknesses among the lineup while watching one of their televised games. 82-Ed Discovers America Wilbur wins a commission to build the city's American History Museum, but is stumped when he tries to come up with a monument. 83-Taller Than She Ed falls madly in love with a French filly, but is chagrined to find she is taller than him. 84-Be Kind to Humans Wilbur and Ed get lost while out riding and meet three hobos. While Wilbur's back is turned, Ed invites them to stay at the Posts' house. 85-Don't Laugh at Horses Wilbur and Kay's brother decide to go to a masquerade ball as a horse--and Ed takes offense. 86-Getting Ed's Goat It's Wilbur's birthday and Ed provides an added surprise when he presents Wilbur with a stray goat that he has adopted. 87-Ed, the Musician When everyone becomes involved in the local variety show, Ed feels left out. He becomes a one-man band and practices in the barn at midnight! 88-Oh, Those Hats Wilbur is commissioned to design a new beach house for a famous woman columnist. 89-Ed, the Shish Kebob Wilbur is invited to attend a magician's convention and decides to take both Carol and Ed along. (The Great Blackstone guest stars.) 90-Ed, the Desert Rat After a tiff with Wilbur, Ed heads for the wide open land, but gets lost in the desert where he encounters all types of misadventures. 91-Home Sweet Trailer Ed feels his territory threatened when Wilbur's former Air Force Commander and his wife come to town and park their trailer in the Posts' backyard. (The Kirkwoods replace the Addisons as the neighbors.) 92-Love Thy New Neighbor Wilbur reverts to his old Air Force behavior, becoming overly helpful around Commander Kirkwood, who has bought the house next door. 93-Moko Colonel Kirkwood plans a party for his straight-laced, former Commanding General, but a little Martian changes the outcome of the event. 94-Ed in the Peace Corps Ed is frustrated when Wilbur hires a secretary, a young Japanese exchange student whose ever-present efficiency cramps Ed's style. 95-Ed Gets the Mumps Ed feels neglected when the Posts and Kirkwoods look after a neighbor's baby--so he comes down with self-inflicted mumps. 96-Ed's Christmas Story It is Christmas and Wilbur has decided to be practical in buying gifts this year...until he gets Ed's list of presents. 97-Ed's Dentist When Ed complains of a toothache, the vet comes to give him a shot for the pain. But Ed disappears when he gets a look at the needle. 98-Ed Visits a Gypsy Ed, who has fallen in love with a spirited filly, wants Wilbur to take him to a gypsy so that he can have his hoof read. 99-Ed, the Chauffeur Because Wilbur scoffs at Ed's notion that there is nothing to driving a car, Ed has to show up Wilbur. 100-Old Swayback Ed befriends a poor swaybacked horse, the brunt of public ridicule, and convinces Wilbur to let the horse stay with them. 101-Ed, the Donkey Ed takes offense at being called a jackass too many times, so he insists that Wilbur take him to a veterinarian to make sure he is still a horse. 102-Mae West Meets Ed When Ed overhears Mae West commissioning Wilbur to design ultra-deluxe stables for her horses, he becomes dissatisfied with his own surroundings. 103-Saddles and Gowns What happens when Wilbur refuses to buy Ed a new saddle and Carol a new dress? 104-The Prowler A prowler is loose in the neighborhood, and Wilbur plays detective with the police while Ed harbors the culprit. 105-Ed, the Pool Player Colonel Kirkwood gets in over his head with pool sharks and Ed races to the rescue. 106-Ed Writes Dear Abby Ed writes Dear Abby because he wants his own bachelor stall--down at the stables. Season Five: 1964-1965 107-Hi-Fi Horse Carol complains that the stereo Wilbur bought for their anniversary is not a personal-enough gift. 108-Ed's Tunnel to Freedom Wilbur teaches Ed a lesson by locking him in his stall for stealing brownies and pies from the kitchen window. 109-Jon Provost Meets Mister Ed Jon Provost stars as the pitcher for Wilbur's little league baseball team--but almost misses the game. 110-Like Father, Like Horse The joke is on Ed when he tries to play a prank on Colonel Kirkwood. 111-Ed, the Race Horse Colonel Kirkwood takes up horseback riding and has found a favorite (and fast) horse to ride. He challenges Wilbur and Ed to a race... 112-My Horse, the Ranger While Carol prepares a Girl Ranger outing, Wilbur is asked to take Boy Rangers on a similar trip--and Ed wants to go along. 113-The Heavy Rider A shopping mall investor needs an architect, and Wilbur is suggested. When the 300-pound investor wants to ride Ed, Wilbur sees no problem. 114-Ed, the Pilot When Wilbur and Kirkwood decide to buy a plane, Ed wants to learn to fly. 115-Ed, the Stowaway The Posts and the Kirkwoods are on their way for what they think will be a vacation without Ed. 116-Animal Jury Wilbur's Aunt comes to visit with her pet parrot. When the bird shows up in the pet store, Ed tries to convince Wilbur the cat did it. 117-What Kind of Foal Am I? Carol's father comes to visit, which makes Ed want to find his father. Naturally, Wilbur is enlisted to lead the search. 118-Ed's Juice Stand While Colonel Kirkwood searches for a small business to buy, Ed opens his own. 119-The Dragon Horse Items collected for an auction and stored in Ed's barn reveal a fierce looking creature. 120-Never Ride Horses When Carol's father is visiting the Posts, Ed decides that people should not ride horses. 121-Ed, the Sentry Carol develops an allergy to horses and Ed volunteers himself for Air Force sentry duty. 122-Ed's Diction Teacher Wilbur accidentally pulls the stuffing out of a little toy horse. When he discusses stuffing "the horse," Ed goes into shock. 123-Ed, the Godfather A neighbor's filly is having a colt while her owner is away. Ed brings her home, pleased to become a godfather. 124-Ed's Contact Lenses When Ed is spotted wearing glasses in public, he decides it is time to get contacts. 125-Ed's Cold Tail Ed wants a heater for the barn, but Wilbur is in a bind when Carol needs a new refrigerator. 126-The Bank Robbery Ed unwittingly becomes the "drop" for stolen money, taken from a bank where Wilbur was making a deposit. 127-My Horse the Mailman When Wilbur designs a spot office which includes a Pony Express statue, Ed becomes obsessed with the idea that his ancestors used to deliver mail. 128-Whiskers and Tails Ed is worried by the new neighbor, an archaeology professor who has a mustache and a beard. 129-Robin Hood Ed A movie producer seeks an unknown to play Robin Hood in his movie, and Carol convinces Wilbur to try out. 130-Ed, the Artist Feeling unfulfilled as a horse, Ed takes up painting. An unattractive portrait of Carol could possibly win him the fame he seeks. Season Six: 1965-1966 131-Ed, the Counterspy Ed discovers three spies using the park to drop secret messages, and Wilbur gets in over his head when he finds a roll of microfilm. 132-Ed a Go-Go When a builder/neighbor needs an architect, Ed decides that a fondness for go-go music might help Wilbur get the job. 133-Cold Finger The Secret Intelligence Agency Chief calls Wilbur to find a tiny secret radio that has disappeared. Ed finds the only clue. 134-Spies Strike Back Wilbur and Ed are threatened by spies from whom they recovered a secret miniature radio for the Secret Intelligence Agency. 135-Love and the Single Horse Carol tries to publish Ed's memoirs. Irene Ryan and Raymond Bailey from "The Beverly Hillbillies" guest star. 136-Monkey Involved in Spy Ring The Secret Intelligence Agency calls on Wilbur to discover who has been stealing papers from the SIA. Naturally, Wilbur turns to Ed. 137-Ed Wins a Color Television Set Ed answers a tough question about chess on a radio quiz and wins a color television set for Wilbur. 138-The Horse and the Pussycat Carol offers to look after a friend's cat, but it's Wilbur who is stuck with the extra work, causing him to neglect Ed. 139-Ed, the Bridegroom Ed pleads with Wilbur to get a justice of the peace to perform a marriage ceremony for him and his favorite filly. 140-Don't Skin That Bear Wilbur and Carol receive a bearskin rug as a gift and Ed wants Wilbur to return it. Wilbur refuses, until it gets up to chase him. 141-Ed Acquires a Rival--A Motorcycle Ed decides he will only be ridden bareback--so Wilbur rents a motorcycle. 142-Cherokee Ed Ed discovers he is part-Indian steed and refuses association with a parrot descended from one belonging to General Custer. 143-Ed Goes to College Ignoring Wilbur's pleas to stick to being a horse, Ed makes up his mind to go to college to become a doctor. |
