Default Family Ties: You Know You Are Obessed When...

I borrowed this from another board.

You know you are obsessed with Family Ties when...

You can refer to most of the episodes by name.

You know what season it is by the character's hair.

You know what season it is by what the characters wear

You tape every episode.

You consider the show MUST SEE TV.

You only read articles that have to do with the show or the actors of the show.

You get free time to get on the computer and your on the Family Ties message board checking for new posts.

You start dressing up like the characters and acting the same way as them.

You start saying lines from Family Ties

Your AIM is about Family Ties

You know every episode by heart

You go to every Family Ties site possible and learn about it

The theme song plays you turn up the volume and sing along

Once you get married and have kids, you want to name them after the characters on Family Ties

You watch the entire VH1 series "I love the 80s" looking for Family Ties

You spend more time on the Family Ties board than you do checking your mail or talking to people through AIM

Every time the names Alex, Mallory, Jennifer, Steven, Elyse, Andy, Skippy, Ellen, and Lauren, are mentioned anywhere, anytime or anyplace you immediately turn your complete attention to where you heard it or saw it, then smile because you are reminded of Family Ties

You quote Family Ties at every possible opportunity.

Randomly during the day something triggers your thought and you remember a line or a situation in a Family Ties episode and start laughing to yourself and the people around just sigh and go, "Family Ties right?"

You start comparing the events that occur in your life with the ones on Family Ties, for example when certain people are acting like certain characters or saying something a character would say

You try and assume characteristics of the Family Ties characters

You buy tv guide covers just because there is a picture of Family Ties, and an article that has to do with Family Ties

You have dreams about Family Ties characters

Can you think of others?

I guess I'm obsessed because many of those apply to me including dreaming about the characters!

I can think of some more...

You get a warm feeling when you see mail postmarked in Columbus Ohio

You get a warm feeling when Columbus, OH is mentioned on The Weather Channel.

You write to N@N when FT is canceled and to TV guide to complain about N@N on the "Letters" page.

You wear out your VCR obsessively recording episodes.

You must find a "substitute show" to replace the time you spent watching Family Ties, but find it less filling. (Mine is Growing Pains)

You use the thought of coming home and watching an episode to get through the stress of the day like a drug.

You can't wait for 80s big hair to come back in style.

You would build and live in the Keaton house in your city if floor plans were available

You choose or change your career based on your favorite character.

You watch movies you would not normally watch because one of the actors/actresses on Family Ties plays in it.

You smile in the car when Alex and Ellen's love song is played.

You buy a Volvo because that is what the Keatons drove.

I would also consider myself obessed since some of those also apply to me as well as some of the ones you mentioned:
Dreaming about the characters!
Wear out your video tapes watching FT episodes. I have only a few FT eps. on tapel.
You must find a "substitute show" to replace the time you spent watching Family Ties, but find it less filling. (Mine is Growing Pains) Ditto. I've been watching Growing Pains, but it's just not the same. Family Ties is my favorite, but at least I can watch something.
You use the thought of coming home and watching an episode to get through the stress of the day. Ditto.

Cool

I love 'you know you're obsessed' posts!

- You start talking about the terrible tax monster in your sleep

- You are sooo happy that your parents named you Jennifer

- You can't get enough of that episode on SNL when Dana Carvey sings Without Us

-Watching PBS makes you think of the show because Steven was a PBS Station manager

-You still look for the show on Thursday night on NBC

-You love "Back To The Future" and think Marty McFly is Alex just having a strange dream

-You have to watch any Lifetime movie that Meredith Baxter Birney is in...even if it's just for a minute or two

-Even if you're a democrat (like me), you still wish you were more like Alex in some ways

Good ones!! I think we need a support group called OFTA (Obsessed with Family Ties Anonymous.)

I wish it still came on on Thursday nights!! I also feel the need to watch all Meredith Baxter movies on Lifetime. Most are usually really good. She is so good at dramatic parts! Especially the Betty Broderick Story.

Thats a great idea. It sounds like almost all of us on this board are obsessed. But instead of a support group, it would be a club.

Good thinking...

Making it a support group implies that there is something "abnormal" about being obsessed with Family Ties. (Which we all know is certainly NOT the case).

I've thought of one more You know your obsessed if...

You look inside TV Guide every week hoping that FT will appear under the 5am slot again, but are always disappointed!

I just thought of another one...You get mad everytime Michael J. Fox talks about how much deeper Spin City is and that it is a better show. No offense to Spin, but Family Ties was definitely better. Better plots, better characters and character developement, and BETTER RATINGS! LOL - I really like Spin, it's just that I am obsessed w/ FTies. A lot of ppl think that is strange bcuz I'm only 14.

At fourteen, are you kidding? That is strange for someone your age to have an appreciation for FT. Kid, youve got my vote.

Yaaaaaa! I made a website for Back To The Future, www.backtothefuture88.com, and under the Michael J. Fox section it has a Family Ties page. I haven't updated the FTies page in quite a while however. Actually, I will be moving that particular part of the site bcuz I am making an entire website dedicated to Michael J. Fox, who is my favorite actor. I guess this is a good way to show how obsessed I am!

That is interesting. Esp. since you didn't get to see Family Ties in its original run because your so young. Although, I was obessed with Family Ties during its original run and I was younger than 14. It was nice growing up watching FT. And now at 25, I'm still obessed with Family Ties. =) Just goes to show it doesn't matter what age you are, you can be obessed with the show.
