Default Ruthie

I have a question about Ruthie. I don't remember but wasn't she in kindergarten in the first season? I could have sworn she was but that should put her in 7th grade this season and as we have already learned, she is in 8th grade. Did she skip a year and I missed it? Or is this just one of those tv show things where the kid is magically a year older? Just wondering if anyone remembers how old she was in the first season.

No, I don't remember. I know she is 13 this season, so that would make her in the 8th grade, so they must of just skipped a grade or something.

When the show first started, Mackenzie Rosman (who plays Ruthie) was 6 years old, her character Ruthie was only 4 . In the middle of the first season they put her in pre-kindergarten. (Ruthie must ahve turned 5 really late in the year like Oct, Nov, or Dec) Well, the next season she was in first grade, so that means she skipped kindergarten which is not manditory in California. Then in season 3 she was in second grade, season 4, third grade, but in season 5 she was in the fifth grade. The producers either thought Mackenzie growing up and looked too old to play a fourth grader, they wanted to hurry her up to a higher grade, or they did not realize their mistake.

I'm almost positive it is set in CA. I don't know if they ever specifically say they are in CA but don't they refer to New York as being across the country or 3000 miles away or something like that?

It's California because if you look on the Camden's van's license plate it is a Claifornia plate. Also, they have mentioned a few times before that they live in California. Though I have always wondered if it was Northern or Southern CA.

They do live in CA, cause they had mentioned San Francisco being nearby a couple of times.

Their town is called Glenoak. Is that a real place?

I've read somewhere that Glenoak is a fictitious city, but yes, they do reside in California.
