Talking Forever Young

Does anyone know why all the actors in this series were quite a bit older than the charachters they played. I assume they were all around 17 or 18 throughout the show's run. But when the series started John Travolta was 21, the guy who played Juan Epstien was 24, the guy who played Freddy Boom Boom Washington was 22, and the actor who played Arnold Horshack was 26. The series ran for 4 years, so by the time it ended Barbarino was 25, Epstien was 28, Freddy was 26, and Horshack was 30! That's quite a big age difference don't you think. I know of sitcoms where the actor is a year or 2 older than the charachter they play, but this is probably the biggest age difference in charachters, and actors I ever seen.

When the show was still on the air I was a few years away from starting high school. From watching WBK I ended up thinking that that's how high school would really be and that I'd be this short, still young-appearing kid along the tall, adult looking types I was used to seeing on WBKotter, and other shows. Made me nervous I wouldn't handle it, but I made it through okay.
