Fred and Wilma in a double bed - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

"The Blessed Event" (aka Birth of Pebbles) was the only Flintstones show that had Fred and Wilma in a double bed. The rest of the time they were shown in twin beds, supposedly like the rest of tv at the time. I often wondered if censors had cardiac arrest over Fred and Wilma being shown in a double bed that one time, especially when she was pregnant! Did any cartoon couples appear in double beds before the Flintstones or was that a cartoon first? One thing I am sure of, the Flintstones were actually the first tv couple to be shown in a double bed. They don't get the credit because they're animated, but that episode was in 1963, predating the first live action couple to be shown in a double bed on tv (1964, Bewitched, Darrin and Samantha).

A lot of people don't realize this, but if you look at the earliest episodes of "I Love Lucy", you will see Lucy and Ricky in the same bed. (it didn't last, though...)

I think you may be right about the Flintstones sleeping in the same bed; my guess is that the censors didn't complain was because "the deed had already been done"...but I may be just grasping at straws, here...

It wasn't just that one episode, I think there were several. The beds just kept changing from a double bed to two singles very often. Much like how Fred and Wilma's car had a back seat half the time and didn't have one the other half of the time.

Remember the episode where Wilma uses sleep teaching on Fred while he's asleep so she can get him to help out more with the chores around the house? She then crawled into bed with him.
