Red face 'Lucy Meet the Mustache' MAJOR BLOOPER!

One of the key plot points is that after Lucy and Little Ricky temporarily sabotage Ricky's chances with Ernie Kovacs, Ricky threatens to take the WHOLE family back to. .. CUBA to start running a tobacco farm!
Keep in mind that this was filmed in early,1960- a year AFTER Castro had taken over Cuba AND had abolished private landownership! Folks were trying to fleeCuba by the production of this episode (and, of course, Desi himself had had to flee his homeland thanks to Communist revolutionaries back in 1933). Yet, none of the writers, performers, etc. caught this rather glaring implausibility during this time. .nor have I seen this commented in ANY critique of this episode- even decades later in hindsight.
All I can think of is that since the Arnaz marriage was in its final stages of meltdown, the 'Ricky wants to RETURN to Cuba' imposibility totally slipped under the radar!

Never even thought about that. Perhaps at that point, no one cared about details...everything was falling apart anyway.

It's called a 'joke', PracTz! It's doesn't have to be politically accurate!

Back in 1960, when it came to Castro and Cuba, most other shows more or less did. .but I guess with the divorce and this being the last show, it slipped under the radar and/or nobody thought they had anything to lose by ignoring Cuba's current conditions. Put it this way, it would make as much sense today to have Margaret Cho talk about opening a kimchi stand in Pyunyang, North Korea - totally ignoring the existance of the North Korean govt!

I genuinely believe that most people wouldn't even think about it! It's just a throwaway line.

Probably RICKY couldn't care less where he ended up; since the marriage had fallen apart; to him as far as going back to CUBA wouldn't had been a great deal.

I think you're confusing the show with their real life. The comment was made on the program about the "Ricardos" and their marriage didn't break up!

The marriage didn't break up but RICKY wanted out somehow and CUBA was probably the safest place to be.
