At places like Walmart, flea markets, etc. I will see different Andy Griffith show dvds for sale but they all seem to have the same exact list of episodes to choose from. Does anyone know why only certain episodes made it and others didn't??? I would assume that these particular episodes fall into "Public Domain," is this correct? If this is the case, why wouldn't more episodes than these fall under this "Public Domain" category? If they didn't fall into "Public Domain," and they were sold by the copyright holders, then I wonder why only these few episodes were sold. I have a couple dvd sets of TAGS and while I really enjoy the episodes, I have to admit that it kind of grates on me when they overdub this music over the opening and closing credits. They did the same exact thing with some Beverly Hillbillie dvd's that I own.
Signed, Respectfully, Dutch |

From what I have read, sixteen episodes from the third season are in public domain due to a clerical error. The TAGS theme music has a separate copyright which is still in force; that's why the PD product has different music.
I think Columbia House is the only licensed producer of TAGS eps including original music, but they only put them out on tape. I have no idea when the 233 eps still under copyright enter PD. *edit to correct info* |
