I was wondering....
I missed the first few episodes. How did Wilbur and Mr. Ed meet and did Mr. Ed talk to him right away? How did they explain Roger Addison's absence. I see that Jack Albertson is there as Kay's brother, but I don't hear any mention of Roger. Why is it that Mr. Ed can call Wilbur at his house, indicating that he has a separate phone line, yet also listen in on Wilbur's home phone conversations? Not a big deal....just wondering. Richard Deacon played Wilbur's psychiatrist. This had to be in 1963, maybe 1964, when The Dick Van Dyke Show was in full swing. I believe Deacon was also on Leave it to Beaver. How many shows was this guy on at one time? lol. I loved him as Mel Cooley on TDVDS. Poor guy, died too young. What is Mr. Ed's relationship with Carol? I've noticed little interaction between them in the episodes I've seen so far. Does Mr. Ed like Carol? Also, does anyone think Wilbur puts Mr. Ed ahead of Carol sometimes? I noticed it in the episode where Carol is redecorating, and Mr. Ed wants those lift shoes. Wilbur totally blew off Carol knowing how important it was to her that he accompany her. It was hilarious when Ed was dancing in the barn, wearing that hat and had all their furniture. I love when Mr. Ed shakes his rear end. It's just too cute. In the psychiatrist episode, Wilbur told Ed, "You know I love you." It was certainly nice to hear, and I don't know if he says it all the time as I'm new to the show. It was very touching. Edna Skinner has the most beautiful voice. I saw that when she sang some Rapture song with Jack Albertson at the piano. She clearly must have been a singer at one time. |

**I missed the first few episodes. How did Wilbur and Mr. Ed meet and did Mr. Ed talk to him right away?**
Mister Ed came with the house. Ed waited a little bit before talking to Wilbur. Wilbur was talking to Ed unaware that he could talk. He said "When I was a boy I always wanted a pony. Course, It's been a long time since I was a boy." Mister Ed responded "It's been a long time since I was a pony." Wilbur ran out of the barn, scared. He actually did tell Carol and Roger about Mister Ed, but they didn't believe him, and Ed refused to talk to them. **How did they explain Roger Addison's absence. I see that Jack Albertson is there as Kay's brother, but I don't hear any mention of Roger.** I'm wondering the same thing. I know that a new couple move next door in episode 91. Jack Albertson has been on the show occasionally since episode 15. Roger hated him, though. It doesn't seem like Kay even mentioned having a husband, though, does it? **Why is it that Mr. Ed can call Wilbur at his house, indicating that he has a separate phone line, yet also listen in on Wilbur's home phone conversations? Not a big deal....just wondering.** Don't know. **Richard Deacon played Wilbur's psychiatrist. This had to be in 1963, maybe 1964, when The Dick Van Dyke Show was in full swing. I believe Deacon was also on Leave it to Beaver. How many shows was this guy on at one time? lol. I loved him as Mel Cooley on TDVDS. Poor guy, died too young.** Also, don't know. But it was a common thing to see him on a TV show in the sixties. **What is Mr. Ed's relationship with Carol? I've noticed little interaction between them in the episodes I've seen so far. Does Mr. Ed like Carol?** I think he does. And she says she likes him, but it seems like she's jealous of him. I mean Wilbur does spend way too much time with Mister Ed. Of course if I had a talking horse, I'd spend time with him too. **Also, does anyone think Wilbur puts Mr. Ed ahead of Carol sometimes? I noticed it in the episode where Carol is redecorating, and Mr. Ed wants those lift shoes. Wilbur totally blew off Carol knowing how important it was to her that he accompany her. ** Carol believes so. In an early episode, Wilbur demanded that Ed come along on vacation, when Carol didn't want him to come. **It was hilarious when Ed was dancing in the barn, wearing that hat and had all their furniture. I love when Mr. Ed shakes his rear end. It's just too cute.** **In the psychiatrist episode, Wilbur told Ed, "You know I love you." It was certainly nice to hear, and I don't know if he says it all the time as I'm new to the show. It was very touching.** He doesn't say it alot, but Ed knows that Wilbur loves him. **Edna Skinner has the most beautiful voice. I saw that when she sang some Rapture song with Jack Albertson at the piano. She clearly must have been a singer at one time.** Maybe. In "Chico and the Man" Jack Albertson had an episode where he played the piano and sang.******* Alan Young was definately the best actor who could have played Wilbur Post. |

Thank you so very much TVAdam. I never expected someone to take the time to address all of my questions and comments, especially in such great detail.

By the way, at the time I commented on Edna Skinner's singing voice, I hadn't seen the episode. I just saw it about a half hour ago, and I agree she had a great voice. |

Did Ed explain why he could talk?? Was there some strange circumstance that game him the power of human speech, or what? Surely Wilbur asked him this---I know I would if I met a talkin' horse! lol *very curious if there was any history given on this or not* |

That's Jack Albertson who played Kay's brother? I didn't know that. Is that the same Jack Albertson who was Mabel Albertson's brother?

Yes I believe Jack and Mabel Albertson are brother and sister.
She has played many tv mothers. Darrens mother on Bewitched and I think she Rob Petries on Dick van Dyke. |

What would Darrin, Samantha and Endora think if they met Mr Ed and saw that he could talk? Would they think he was he a warlock or that someone put a spell on a human?
