In two weeks, ABC is going to air the classic Halloween cartoon It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. I've seen the show numerous times, including last year, and felt that the female characters were cruel and abusive to the male characters.
Cases in point. Sally yelling at Linus. Charlie Brown tormented by Lucy, Patty and Violet and Lucy the bully her crabby self toward everyone. Feel free to post your views on this Halloween classic. |

This is also the film that introduces Snoopy's "WWI Flying Ace" character that's forever hunting the "Red Baron", and the depictions of the "dogfights" were quite imaginative and striking. Sally Brown's wide-eyed-innocence and big crush on Linus was also given top priority here (although it had been hinted at in the first special "A Charlie Brown Christmas"), and her reaction upon discovering she'd wasted her whole night in the pumpkin patch when she could have been getting candy was, and is to this day a priceless piece of comedy that still drives me into helpless fits of giggling("I spend all night in the pumpkin patch with a BLOCKHEAD!! YOU OWE ME RESTITUTION!!!") "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is, in my humble opinion, one of the FUNNIEST ( if not THE funniest) "Peanuts" special ever made!! But, that's just me...

Linus: You don't believe the story of the Great Pumpkin? But I thought little girls always believed everthing that was told to them. I thought little girls were innocent and trusting.Sally: Welcome to the 20th century.I loved that line. But poor Charlie Brown all he got was a bag of rocks.
That always made me mad.

Linus has a great line that I've used myself on occasion:
"There are three things I have learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin!"

I liked the part where Lucy realizes that Linus is still outside, so she brings him in and puts him to bed. It was nice to see her as a concerned sister and not just her usual bossy self.
