Sad Is my Computer posessed??

What is up with my PC?

Everynow and then whenever I go to "Yahoo.com" in the search box sometimes automatically types the words "to to" etc

and also just now I was playing a movie clip from ZAPtv's website and at the top of the box where the clip was playing read this

"I my I. R. O.
In I mean: who has online has engaged with all your heart a telephone handle a share her and married and new and nine. Her less than zero (whose houses here at 08:00 "

now what the hell does all this mean???

Do any of you guys get any weird messages on your computer??

Help is Needed, Me Thinks

Maybe you should scan for viruses and spyware, see if that helps.

My computer beats me at chess, I beat it at kickboxing.

Do you have OfficeXP or WindowsXP and a microphone?

By default when you install OfficeXP, it turns on the speech recognition - if you have a mic plugged in, it will automatically try to translate whatever background noise the mic picks up into text in any active text box.

Open notepad and see if it starts adding text, then unplug your microphone, or mute it and see if it stops...

WindowsXP also has it built-in, but not turned on by default, although there are a NUMBER fo ways it can be enabled without you knowing about it - by upgrading to WindowsMediaPlayer 9 for example will do it.

if you press Ctrl+Alt+Del and look at the processes, if the speech recognition applet is running, you should see a process named "ctfmon.exe"

From the Microsoft Knowledge Base, http://support.microsoft.com/default...;278927#Topic3

To remove speech recognition, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. (If you are using Windows XP, click Start and then click Control Panel.)
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Perform one of the following:
* In Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or Windows NT 4.0, click to select Microsoft Office XP on the Install/Uninstall tab, and then click Add/Remove.

-or-
* In Windows XP or Windows 2000, click to select Change or Remove Programs. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Office XP, and then click Change.
4. Click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
5. In the Features to install list, click to expand Office Shared Features.
6. Click to expand Alternative User Input.
7. Click the Speech icon, and then click Not Available on the shortcut menu.
8. Click Update to remove speech components.

it SOUNDS like its a virus, but its not DOING anything like a virus - at least according to what Peter said...

the problem that I described with OfficeXP was very common when it first came out... you dont hear about it too much anymore, but it fits what Peter described exactly.

OK -

Open the Control Panel and open the "Sounds and Audio Devices"
click on the "Audio" tab on the "Sounds and Audio Devices properties" page,
under "Sound Recording" click on the Volume button, this will open the Recording Control window, set the volume slider to zero, and if the Select box is checked, check the box for "Line In" instead, if you cant see a control for Mic, you'll need to go to the Options>Properties Menu and check the box to display it
(you could also just click the "Mute All" if you dont plan on capturing any audio through your external soundcard connections)
close the Control Panel and all other open windows, try a page you have seen the problem occur on, if it's still happpening then continue these steps from here
....
right click on a blank area on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen
go to Toolbars at the top of the context menu and make sure the Language Bar is checked - click on it if it isnt
you should now have the Language Bar visible on the Taskbar - it has a small microphone and a few other icons
right-click anywhere over the icons and click on Settings... on the context menu
this should open the "Text Services and Input Languages" page - under "installed services" highlight the "Speech Recognition" and click on the "Remove" button, then click on the "OK"
right click on the Language Bar again if it's still there and click on "Close the Language Bar"
you should check and see if ctfmon.exe is listed in the running processes - if it is, i can guarantee that that is the problem....
