Question How did Jan know it was Peter under the sheet?

In the "kids trying to out-scare each other" episode, the girls find the evidence in the boys' room (slide projector, rope, etc.), indicating that the "ghost" was really a prank.

But Jan says, "Peter in a sheet..." while looking at the slide. Now how did she know that it was Peter, and not one of the other boys, if he was covered up in a sheet? I've always wondered this.

Ya know, I've always wondered that myself. I guess it was some sort of editing error. Maybe they cut out a line prior to that explaining why they thought it was Peter.

Or maybe Jan is just the smartest damn Brady there was!

Another question I have from the "Fright Night" episode is, how did the turn on the tape recorder. I am not talking about the end of the episode when they tried to scare Alice. I am talking about then the boys tried to scare the girls. Didn't Marcia say that the boys tied a string which hit the tape recorder. But how can a string turn on a tape recorder? Unless I misunderstood what Marica meant.

Yeah, the writers really didn't think this episodes through too well huh?

Yea, and when Peter and Cindy were recording the screams, he said a couple of things to her which would have been recorded on the tape with the screams (something like, "good, one more scream."

When the boys were up in the attic and the cellophane man was coming out of the trunk, it was so obvious that it was Marcia's voice saying "I need air". Don't they know their sister's voice?
Besides, they should have known the girls were going to try to get them to flee the attic!

Actually, I believe what Marcia figured out was that the boys used a rope to make the rocking chair move (and therefore "creak"), and then were able to simply pull the rope back into their room before it was discovered... as for the tape player, the boys had an extension cord which ran from their room to the tape recorder...the tape player was already in the 'play' position and connected to the extention cord... all the boys had to do was plug in the other end of the extension cord in their room, and the player would activate.

As to how Jan knew it was Peter under the sheet, I've always wondered that too...

And yeah, Vegas Girl, you're absolutely right...ONE of the boys should have been smart enough to say, "hey wait a minute..that's Marcia's voice...". Greg, in particular, looks kind of silly being scared in that scene...one reason that they could have been startled by the movement is because it was probably darker up there than it appeared...sometimes in a scene like that, the set will "light" the characters for TV purposes so we can see them, but you have to imagine that it's really dark there... however, that doesn't explain why the boys couldn't recognize Marcia's voice...

I think it would have been better if the girls could have used the voice of someone else (a male voice would have worked better I think)...I can see it now....at the end of the episode, Marcia and Greg would be talking....<dissolve to dream sequence>

Greg: Boy Marcia, you girls really taught us guys a lesson...but there's one thing I haven't figured out...

Marcia: What's that, Greg?

Greg: Who's voice did you use to record the 'I need air' line? It sounded kind of familiar now that I think about it, but I didn't recognize it..

Marcia: You remember Warren Mullaney?

Greg: Oh no...beaten by Warren again!! That guy's going to 'haunt' me for the rest of my life!!

<fade to black...go to closing credits>

Warren Mullaney? That's cute, but it would have been very un-Brady-like. Almost every episode takes place in its own universe, and with a few exceptions references are never made to other episodes. They did refer to Buddy Hinton again, but in general I kind of like the lack of continuity on the show -- it's one more thing to laugh at.

I totally agree...I also like the self-contained nature of most of their episodes...

When you think about it, it's amazing that a family can exist like that for five years on TV, and basically NEVER refer to anything that happened previously...

I mean, all during the 5th season, no one ever mentioned how great the Grand Canyon vacation was, or Hawaii...no one ever even mentioned that the Cincinnati trip was kind of a let down after the two previous vacations...

When Jan gets a crush on a guy (Clark Tyson), Mike and Carol never talked about what it was like when Marcia went through the same thing (with Harvey Klinger)...

When Pete's voice changes, Carol asks Alice how old Greg was when HIS voice changed...Alice says "About 13, I guess"...meaning that it happened during the run of the show... but no one ever talked about Greg's voice changing...(also, Carol and Mike were married before that time, so Carol should have known)...of course, when Greg's voice changed, it didn't mess up a great singing group...

It's funny how things were constantly referred to that we never saw, but how things which took place in actual episodes were never mentioned again...

Default Redecorating Bedrooms

When the girls were arguing about what kind of wallpaper to put up in their bedroom, Carol says "...and you better make up your mind fast or we'll just forget it." What is the hurry? It could be done any time!

That wasn't even my point though. When they were decorating their bedroom, the father said "Remember when we painted our bedroom last year?"

That time they did refer to something in the past. Even stranger, in the next episode, the bedroom was back the way it was originally!

Another time:

When Greg goes to the drive-in with Rachel and the frogs were left in the back seat, he said "Remember last time, I had to bring my kid brother along?" (The chin-up king episode).

That reminds me...there were three singing episodes, right? "Dough-Re-Mi", "Amateur Nite", and "Adios, Johnny Bravo". In "Dough-Re-Mi", the first one, the kids form a singing group, The Brady Six. And in "Johnny Bravo" (the third one), when Greg wants to go solo, Cindy says that they should rename their group The Brady Five.

But in "Amateur Nite", when Jan suggests entering the talent show to pay for the silver platter, Marcia acts surprised at the suggestion, as if they hadn't already formed a group and sung several songs together. And when the host of the show asks for the group name, Greg thinks a second and says The Silver Platters, rather than mentioning The Brady Six. Very strange, don't you think?

I just thought of another time when they mentioned the past: at King's Island amusement park. Carol reminds Mike how it was on their honeymoon, with the kids.

Some times they should have remembered:
1. When Bobby was the safety monitor, he discovered that he had been violating a rule by chewing gum, but in Private Ear he had gotten in trouble for chewing gum in class.
2. Also in Private Ear, Peter apparently didn't fully learn his lesson when his parents lectured him about invasion of privacy because in Getting Greg's Goat he told Bobby that listening through the vent was an invasion of privacy but did it anyway. Maybe Marcia and Greg were right; he should have been punished more severely for taperecording others' conversations.
