Default The episode where Tony thinks Jeannie is pregnant

That was a cute episode where Tony thought Jeannie was pregant but it was the dog instead. However, I have a question. If Tony was so worried about Jeannie being pregnant then that means that Tony and Jeannie were ....uh...well....you know!! Were they?!

Hola amigos:

Well, my friends they were married in those episodes mention above so it's normal that Tony and Jeannie were sleeping together as all married couple...

To me the question isn’t “whether” or not they are doing it, it is for “how long” have they been. The entire premise of the show is that he was thrown into a situation that could not be resolved – just adapted to and that takes time. She is a beautiful woman and he always was attracted to her physically but due to numerous reasons they are in an awkward arrangement. That is why at first he “seems” to have no interest and is annoyed/irritated with her all the time. As time goes on he starts to realize how sweet, caring, kind, compassionate, warm, considerate, affectionate, etc. she is. But the situation remains awkward because as he is realizing this, she continuously throws herself at him (as well as 1-she causes havoc to his career with her magic and 2-he feels he must keep her existence a secret). So it is not like a normal developing relationship where both people are moving into a relationship-she is already there waiting for him.
I think subconsciously he knows she loves him unconditionally, so he sometimes is very mean to her (by going on dates with other women, or changing plans he has with her for last minute outings with others) – because he knows she will always be there and he takes her for granted. (There were a few other times he thought she left forever and he realized then too that he would be devastated without her but she always came back too quickly so those feelings were wiped away from his mind.)
Eventually he caught up to her, relationship wise – even though he didn’t know it for a while. This happened well before the engagement. He didn’t know it because she was still doing things that got him into terrible trouble/situations. But he was calling her ‘darling’ and ‘sweetheart’, going out on dates frequently, being sweet to her (touches etc.), and spending his free time with her.
But as love sometimes does, when it catches up to you it is overwhelming. It took her leaving him ‘forever’ (long enough for it to sink in this time) for him to realize that he wanted to marry her and have a wife. I don’t mean just for you know what but also for a give and take relationship that an ideal marriage has; a commitment to each other, friendship, mutual respect, and all that other mushy garbage.
Obviously when he decided that he loved her and wanted the commitment of marriage and they married they were going to have relations-to me that was a given. Married people sleep in the same bed so that was just assumed but not shown for obvious 1960’s reasons. Although they avoided situation with them sleeping together they also never showed her going to bed in her bottle any more. Actually, they never showed them going to bed or getting up at all! (except the sweater episode 136 “An Astronaut in Sheep Clothing”)

For me, the real question is at what point did he start loving her in a serious dating way? In a relationship this comes before you realize you want to marry and spend the rest of your life with someone but it is nonetheless a monogamous/committed relationship – although not necessarily long term like marriage is. In real life people in this type of relationship usually sleep together. This is when I think they started having relations. So if we go over the episodes in the 3rd & 4th season what do we see?
069 “Who Are You Calling a Genie?” In this episode I don’t think they have yet because when she has amnesia and he tells her they live together she is shocked. But he says “It’s not what you think.”
072 “Tony’ Wife”- He gets terribly upset when he thinks she is leaving him and asks Roger for advice. Then when she fixes him up on a date he is very confused and says; ”But I thought that you and I were…”. Then the tag is the most romantic scene in the entire series - I think that maybe after that date could be the first time.
083 “Divorce, Genie Style”-If they are it is not on a regular basis because when she looses her powers she sleeps on the couch.
104 “Jeannie, The Governor’s Wife”-check out the tag, this is a clear innuendo (Roger says; “You know what they say about politics?” Note, they say “Politics make strange bedfellows”. The he gives her a big kiss.). I think by this point they are.
105 “Is There a Doctor in The House”- In his semi-conscious state he keeps calling out her name.

But going back to the originators conjecture, all the above does not detract from the fact that after all these years of tension between them (as well as the fans at home wanting it to happen) we have actual confirmation! (131 “Mrs. Djinn Djinn) I found myself coming to the same conclusion (when he was not surprised she was pregnant but just very happy) and I giggled with excitement. It was one of the great moments of the show.

Cool

Well if I wasn't sure before they were married, I definately was at the end of the wedding episode. The two of them sitting in Jeannie's bottle in PJ's snuggling up to one another. Now granted, Jeannie did not have on what I call wedding night attire, but it did look like Tony had a robe on and nothing else! And for 1969, that was probably risque enough!!! And at the very end before the scene fades out, Tony practically rolls over on Jeannie kissing her. They never did anything like that (especially in nighttime attire) prior to that episode. So for me, that was how the director let us know they had crossed the line!! (Yeah FINALLY!!!)

Since Jeanie isn't a normal lady Tony didn't have to actually believe he was the father of her believed baby. Who knows what gets genies pregnant?

PS I don't remember the pregnant ep very well. Did Tony think she was pregnant or did just Amamnda, Dr. Bellows and the rest of NASA think so?

First it was Roger because he saw the baby basket and the Pregnancy Vitamins, then he told everyone else, so everyone thought she was pregnant, until Tony got home and after him asking her like a billion questions ("Are you OK? Do you want anything?" lol) Jeannie told him it was Mrs. Djinn Djinn, not her

Arrow Interesting concepts...

I think it is silly to assume that Tony and Jeannie did anything more than kissing before they were married. I highly doubt a situation where they were "more than friends" would have been welcomed on a family TV show in the '60's. If the show had hinted that they were more involved I think the station would have received pleanty of complaints stating that the show was "inapropiate". Besides, when you think about how they acted it the likely-hood seems perfectly illogical. Tony was too much a gentleman, and Jeannie was too naive to make the first move. Plus in the "Fly Me To The Moon" episode Jeannie says she had a dream about their wedding and "couldn't help going back to sleep for the honeymoon" proving that they hadn't crossed the line just yet, and this episode was not to far ahead of their marriage.

Yeah, you would think they have been well, you know, ... they are married and they love each other. I agree with Jeannie In Pink in that it should not be insinuated that they did anything more than kiss before they were married. Tony was a gentleman and I don't think he would have. Also, I am a firm believer in that Tony had feelings for Jeannie from that very first day that he found her on that island. It just took him a few years to admit it. He probably didn't think it would work out, but his feelings for her just got stronger and stronger as the days went by. All you have to do is observe the way he acted. Someone else here posted a message sayng that it took her leaving himfor good to realize that he absolutely could not live without her and did indeed want to marry her (and yes it would work whether he believed it before or not). Whoever said that was absolutely right.

I don't remember seeing the "reunion" movie, which was done in, I think, 1991 or 1992??? I know that Larry Hagman was not in it. It was "Trapper John" from MASH. (Sorry, I can't remember his real name! LOL!). Anyway, did they explain that Jeannie and Major Nelson were still married in that "reunion" movie and if they had any kids????

Signed,
Respectfully,
Dutch
