Default off topic- anyone know this song?

hi everyone!
ok, I need you all to help me figure out the name of a song and the name of the band who does it....
It's a song from the 70's, I think, and I'm not a guru on 70's musc like I am with 80's music. hehe.

ok, the only lyrics I know for sure go:
"carry on my wayward son, there'll be peace when you are done, lay your weary head to rest, don't you cry no more..."

ohhhh I hear that song all the time, and all of a sudden I realized that I love it and I need it, but I can't get it because i don't know who it's by!
one of you must know who it's by... its a pretty popular song...

hehe thanks!

Oh man.... Wayward Son is on my all-time fave rock songs list!! For Kansas-ignorant folks, they also sang, "Dust in the Wind"

Love,

They were really big in the 70's & early 80's all over the US... now heard only on classic rock stations.

btw are you a fan of X-Files?

Nah, I have no idea who those people are in my avatar!

Seriously, yeah - but I'm not really a big fan of Gillian Anderson or David Duchovny... outside of their work on TXF.

Love,

Wing<><

Actually Krista, I think you guys are pretty high on bodies-per-square-mile, aren't you?

On Kansas' website they actually have mp3 samples of some of their songs...

http://www.kansasband.com/discography.html

I was just listening to Wayward Son, man that song rocks.

Love,

Wing<><

hehehehe
hah
nice
but believe me honey, they both did.
Of course now, when they're such 'stars' they wish nobody new (knew) 'bout their past achievements
but there's nothing to be ashamed of!
