Do you remember all the music formats changed over the years? Here's how. Back in November 2001, in the Hudson Valley area, there was one non-christmas format change: WBPM (94.3) dropped its rhythmic oldies for 50's and 60's straight oldies via satelite by Thanksgiving. There's been no sign yet of local talent on the new "Cool 94.3". There are other stations in the Kingston area back then. Here's a brief history of WBPM off the Hudson Valley Radio History Page. Over the last couple of weeks, "Cool 94.3" was usually played oldies. But now, everything's changed. During the weekend, the station switched its format to just plain Christmas music and it became "Christmas 94.3" That station was too early to start the holiday season. That lasted only one weekend. The following Monday, they switched it again and the station was renamed "Kicks 94.3" and the call letters was changed from WBPM to WKXP and they started playing today's country music all the time. The oldies stations in the Hudson Valley will live on forever. I listened to the oldies on WKNY on Saturdays where they have the original solid gold weekend. Playing these great oldies and there is a doo-wop show for an hour. I used to listened to a 2-hour block of doo-wop music off Rick McCathrey's Solid Gold Jukebox from "Cool 94.3". That's kinda sad. I sometimes like country music and I like Faith Hill and others.

who wouldn't want to listen to christmas music all-year round?

WNEW-FM in New York used to be a rock station. Then they switched to talk in 1999 and gave us those meatheads Opie and Anthony. After their crudity finally got bad enoguh to force them off the air, WNEW-FM switched to a disco/gossip format, than an adult contemporary format, and now has a dance-pop format. They're trying to appeal to the same type of women who watched "Sex and the City" and quite possibly watch reruns of "The Golden Girls." Not good.

Bring back WNEW-FM the rock station!

While I was in the van that K104-K107 was drop the name and it became just K104 since last week. WXPK was switched its K104-107 format to become "The Peak" 107.1, an alternative station in White Plains which is quite similar to Woodstock's WDST. A few months ago, WMTR did very well with the 50's and early 60's oldies format in place of the Adult Standards station. In Kingston NY, they can't get their oldies stations on FM anymore. This is according to the website:

Up in the Hudson Valley, WBPM (94.3 Kingston) changed calls to WKXP, stunted with "Christmas 94.3," then flipped to country October 6th of last year as "Kix" or "Kicks".

I love Country music sometimes Kicks 94.3 would now go head-to-head with Country rival WRWD. Bring back the oldies format in the Hudson Valley!

I'll trade you one of the 5 or 6 "classic rock" stations we have here for a dance station.

All of the local classic rock stations are the same, I think all you really need to start a "local classic rock" station is a copy of Back In Black, a Lynyrd Skynyrd Greatest Hits cd, 2 Led Zeppelin cd's (Led Zeppelin IV being mandatory, but the other one of your picking) and Steve Miller's GH album (except never play Abracadabra even tho that was one of his biggest hits). It's always one of those 4 artists, and when the occasional moment comes they play another artist, it's always the most predictable song. Considering how many rock songs out there that were hits in the 60's, 70's and early/mid 80's, they sure seem to only like to play the same 3 songs.

I would LOVE a dance station here. As a gay man, that music is manna. The "dance" station we used to have went hip hop/top 40 a few years ago. Some of us do wanna hear our Kylie and Amber on the radio

Great news! 92.9 Rock is now Cool 92.9, the new station plays all the great oldies from the 50's, 60's and 70's. I was on my way home from Riverfest, I listened to my walkman and I heard the station was changed. Now 92.9 Rock will no longer played classic rock & roll. Over the last couple of months that Cool 94.3 stopped playing oldies since it was switched to country music. Now, oldies is back to stay. As I said, 92.9 Rock becomes Cool 92.9, the stations now plays great oldies.

To me, I'm not a big hard rock fan.
